On saturday my Sister and bro In Law went to see The Killers at the NEC and I looked after my 6 year old nephew. I've mentioned him before on here - he is now quite excellent on the drums and since he was a baby he's shown a real interest in rock music (especially Zeppelin, The Who, U2, Green Day, Robbie, The Killers etc). His mum and dad were coming home when they got a phone call off a mate saying his 15 year old son had been rushed into hospital and would they like a couple of free tickets for sunday night. They snapped his hand off and my sister decided to take my 6 year old nephew since he's mad on The Killers. He rang me up at 6 pm and he hasn't stopped talking about his first rock concert :D

I was quite late when I saw my first concert. I was 13 when I either saw Led Zeppelin or Status Quo in 1971 (honestly can't remember who was first).

Not counting your Dad or Uncles band, how old were you when you first saw a proper rock band and who was it?

Earache Gods of Grind tour.

1992.

Aged 6.

"Uncle gary! Take me to see Carcass!"

"No."

"Uncle gary! Take me to see Carcass!"

"No."

"Uncle gary! Take me to see Carcass!"

"No."

Repeat for 2 months.

"Uncle gary! Take me to see Carcass!"

"Okay!"

First one I really remember was age 8.
Queen live at Wembley in '86

Uncle took me and I LOVED it. :D

I think I saw Quo before that though, but Queen at Wembley is permenently lodged in my memory as an important moment in my life. :D

Probably James supported by Stereophoics back in 98 i think when i was twelve. Proper Rock was probably Slipknot whenever that was, recall them doing a signing at the old Virgin though

24 I think, Supergrass.

Edit: Come to think of it there's quite a few things I missed out on as a youngster due to (amongst other reasons) none of my family really being into Rock music, sport or foreign holidays:

Top flight football match: 22
Trip abroad (excluding school): 23
Proper rock concert: 24

I saw Chuck Berry live at the Wolverhampton Civic with my Dad when I was 12 years old.

I wasn't a regular until I was 18 though.

It was Blinks last date in London before they split up. :D I think I was 15 but might have been 16. I'm 18 so I could figure it out but I can't be bothered. :p

Actually I saw The Thrills before that, probably when I was 15 though.

If you haven't been to a live gig, go! I don't like arena gigs as much as club gigs, the best venue has been Brixton Academy for me.

I was a fairly late starter. First gig I went to was Incubus on my 17th birthday. Don't know if that counts as a proper rock concert though. Since then I've been to a fair few gigs. Seems like a lot in only about 2 3/4 years.

my first gig - 20th march 2002 - i was 15 and system of a down were my gods
that was an unbelieveable evening - 'spiders are arachnids...'
:)
took my little brother to see greenday for his first gig, he was 14/15

my mums, however, was watching jimmi hendrix play the isle of white festival

I might be a year or two out but I'm fairly sure it was 1988 or 1989 it was certainly after "Hail Hail Rock and Roll" came out.

Actually I got the year wrong.
It was around 85/86 because I'd not long had my knee cartlidge out.
I played in his band but I never got to speak to him.
We waited on the stage, he walked on, barked out the name of the song and the key it was in and then continued.
This lasted for exactly 59 mins and at 59 mins he wound up the song and walked off and I never saw him again.
