How on earth do you go caseless?

I've often thought about going caseless with my iPhones and, with the recent models looking so nice and more like a piece of jewellery than a phone, I feel the urge to even more.

What always stops me is that, aside from looking nice, recent phones are so damn slippery in the hand that it's like trying to hold a wet bar of soap. Sooner or later it's going to happen.

I'm just wondering, of those of you that go caseless with your iphones (especially recent glass-backed ones), do you not find it slippery and dangerous to hold?
Does anyone do something like a rear-only vinyl to improve the grip?

I went caseless with a temporary ancient cheapo midrange nokia that wasn't even glass backed and it was like trying to hold wet soap. No idea how anyone goes caseless.

:edit: lol, I didn't read more than the first lines and first reply before posting, didn't realise I was just repeating. Ah well, the analogy is clearly very fitting.

Never dropped mine, I don’t find it slippy at all. I’ve not even dropped it while being black out drunk. :p

Phone is basically always in my pocket or hand when moving around - I’ve seen some right weird stuff on this forum about struggling to find pocket to put the phone in. Phone goes in the right hand pocket and that’s the only thing that goes in there.

How? I look after it. I don’t throw my Rolex down the stairs, and I have no intention of mishandling my phone. If and when it happens I have AppleCare+.

I've dropped my 13 Mini a bunch of times, because I'm an absolute idiot, no visible to the immediate eye scratches, dents or issues. I'm sure if you got super close you'd see some potential micro-scratches etc, but I've also had it for years now too.

They are slippery little weasels. I have a 13 pro max that I have probably dropped about 20 times without it breaking. Has dings and dents but nothing more. I have scratches all over it from my boys trying to eat it and it generally being abused. They are really hardy things. Well until you inevitably drop it from 10cm at just the wrong angle and crack the screen.

I'm happy to go caseless now and again just to change things up, I'm confident enough not to drop or mishandle etc - I can't say the same for my 2 and 4 year old however so for that reason it does tend to live in a case 99% of the time.
I will say, that after a few days caseless I actually like going back to a case because it's just easier to pick up and hold. When watching videos in landscape in particular I find having the phone in a case makes it much more comfortable to hold for extended periods.

I have episodes of Mongfingers where I’m handling my phone whilst trying to interact with other things and/or get distracted by something shiny and I’ve lost count of the number of times that I’ve dropped phones.

As I’ve always put cases on my iThings because they are more slippery than a greased politician out of the box, I’ve never damaged one through dropping it.

talking to our neighbour earlier, she juggled her new 16 Pro straight into the tarmac… phone survived, but she literally drove to the Metrocentre Apple Store to get a case and screen protector straight after talking to me! AC+ added as well now.

I stood by the window once and dropped it and it hit the radiator on the way down, can't be more than a foot between dropping and impact to the radiator.

The screen cracked like a mosaic.

I was VERY adamant of not putting on a screen protector on before then, this was iPhone 6. Since then I have had a screen protector on them all, and cracked another one after too and that was just the protector.

(I also use a case)

Screen protectors crack when you even suggest the phone might be dropped. Swear everyone with a screen protector cracks them. They are just very thin and brittle. I don't think they actually protect the screen from drops, just scratches.

I do it by not paying for my phones but I will say I dropped my S24 Ultra face down from standing outside last night and it survived just fine.. very surprising!

Samsung S24 ultra: Hold my beer….

Out of all the phones I have owned. The S24 is slippery AF. The fact it is a big heavy rectangular block and let be honest not very comfortable to hold compared to the S21 ultra. I find it more slippier (I am not sure if that is even a word but my post , my rules) than any iPhone I have owned. Sure the gloss glass back iPhones of the past few years have been a handful but from my point of view the S24 ultra defies the law of friction.
