How on earth do you go caseless?

I seem to break phones on holidays, one of the early iphones was left on a friends car and as he started to drive we heard it slip off the roof on to the road at the first corner. My current 12 pro has a shattered back after dropping it on concrete 2 weeks old on holiday. I've just put a cover on it and it's been fine as it didn't affect the cameras, battery or wireless charging.

The worst phone was the Samsung s8, lozengier shape, slippery and was using it a lot when cycling to take pictures one handed, but never dropped that one

I recently went caseless and i loved it. The phone felt great (Although a little slippery Iphone 15 pro Max) but it was how the phone was designed and to be used nice and slim and sleek. I have gone back to the case for a little while as i prefer the extra magnets in the case that help it snap to my wireless chargers by my bed or in the car. I have AC+ so will probably be going back to bareback soon. I will always use a screen protector tho as they are cheap and i hate to have scratches on the screen.

I've often thought about going caseless with my iPhones and, with the recent models looking so nice and more like a piece of jewellery than a phone, I feel the urge to even more.

What always stops me is that, aside from looking nice, recent phones are so damn slippery in the hand that it's like trying to hold a wet bar of soap. Sooner or later it's going to happen.

I'm just wondering, of those of you that go caseless with your iphones (especially recent glass-backed ones), do you not find it slippery and dangerous to hold?
Does anyone do something like a rear-only vinyl to improve the grip?
Yes, very slippery. I’m typing this on an iPhone 16 and was thinking earlier today that I really need to buy a case.

I used to go caseless with the 3, 4 and 7 but the newer models are not only larger but also slipper, I got into the habit of putting my 7 on the sofa arm rest for example but then when switching to an XS it would stay momentarily and then slip off, so I turned into a casecel.

I’ve dropped my 15 pro quite a few times. Most of them getting into my car wearing shorts - onto brick driveway. A few times on the other side of the seat into the seat sliders. There’s a couple of dings around the camera surrounds but that’s about it.
Caseless but with a screen protector.

School boy error that. I always hold my phone when getting in and slap it onto the magsafe. :D

Years ago I done the same as you and ended up smashing the back, can’t remember which one had the glass back but it was a lesson learnt! :D

No danger of me wearing shorts again for the next few months lol but I did learn, eventually, and only happened a few times.

These phones are getting much more durable IMO. The 12 I had before was a slippery little bugger but the 15 is actually not too bad. Needs to go face up on flat surfaces though, otherwise it slowly makes it way off the edge if it's not totally level.

Dropped my 15PM just this morning from chest height onto rough tarmac - went to put it in my breast pocket, missed :p
Fortunately it was cased. It landed directly on the top right corner so I have little doubt the case saved an expensive repair bill and much heartache.
1-0 to Torras!
PS, not a plug for Torras - just what I happened to have on at the time.

No idea, they seem way too slippery without one which is why I use one rather than just in case I do drop it.

Phones look way better without cases IMHO but the sheer investment of over £1000 means I cannot bring myself to do so :(

Yeah. What I do is use a case (no screen protectir) from day 1. After say 3 years when the phone ain't worth what it used to be I take the case of and use it like that until I feel the need to upgrade.

Feels like an upgrade, aesthetically anyway, after you take off a case. Will probably do that in 3-4 years with my S24 Ultra.

Not a bad idea tbf

I've been caseless with all my iphones except my most recent one, 15 Pro. The only reason I got a case is that I've started reading books this last year or so, and therefore bought a Torras case that has a kickstand.

I've had many iphones, probably 8-9, and I think I dropped a phone maybe 2-3 times, never had damage. I do miss the sleakness of how easy a naked iphone goes into my jeans pocket.

Considered caseless plus AppleCare, but I just can’t do it. I drop my phone all the time in the gym. I’ve actually got quite a chunky case on too.

Exactly. I take care of all my electronics (unlike my missus) but after a few years when the value is much lower I start to care less and less.
