How restrictive is your works internet?

I only block porn and spam. But i use teamviewer to connect to my home pc and browse what i want from there. Even though i could browse at work without any issues as no one monitoring but me.

We block all social media, personal email (gmail, hotmail etc) and any site where files can be uploaded, along with all the usual adult stuff etc.
As I manage the web filtering, us guys are unrestricted down in the dungeons.

Wow, if i blocked social media my head would be gone in 10mins.
I found Facebook intermittently worked. Was really weird!

None but I am behind a German server so there are some geographic restrictions, particularly when viewing some BBC videos.

Have browser open all day with my usual array of forums/sites I visit.
Helps that I don't have anyone sat facing my monitor other than me
I'm in charge of the filtering for our 8000 or so staff, it's fairly unrestricted, it's essentially a "block porn - audit everything" setup. Ultimately if you have policies in place there's no need to overly restrict internet usage, it's down to line management to manage their staff, not IT systems.
Quite a change from the way it was before I took over though.
People shouldn't rely on IT systems to do line management work.. if your staff are skiving off on the 'net then that's the fault of the management.

At a clients site where I have IT access, they pretty much block anything relating to forums, gaming, pr0n, ebay, facebook, hotmail, Gmail etc etc. But we can get Youtube. Go figure. Often sites are blocked on their address name. For instance I can use the OCUK forum, but other forums that use the word 'forum' in the address bar are blocked. Likewise any address using the word 'game' is blocked.
Pretty restrictive really, but then the IT system here is huge/multinational so security is pretty tight (so I am led to believe).
Our HQ IT system is unrestricted as far as I know.
To be fair though, the computers are there for work purposes, not recreation so I cant complain.

We block categories such as porn, social media, gambling, gaming, web based email, downloads and steaming media etc. and allow other categories on a departmental basis.

Sounds similar to the IT system at our clients site. Cant grumble though. At the end of the day things like web mail pose a security risk, and the company is paying for their bandwidth and infrastructure to aid the business not so people like me can watch pr0n whilst selling stuff on ebay!

Ours is pretty lax in terms of filtering, only obvious grot sites are blocked.
The main restriction is it's a 4Mb line shared between 30 people. Lunchtimes and towards the end of the day it's as effective as a wet piece of string.

How do the employees at your work make it through the day?
At my previous work we had nothing blocked, we rarely monitored it either, but one day I was bored and decided to heck the usage of various Internet sites per click, application usage, how had downloaded and used the most data etc.
And I noticed one person had nearly 300% more data usage than everybody else... Clicked on his name... He was rinsing torrents consistently, from 10 at night to 3 in the morning the amount of porn was ridiculous... Remember, it maybe free, but people are watching

Some don't need any Internet access at all and the other departments have been audited so categories they NEED for work are allowed and other sites are available upon request.
At the end of the day it's a tool provided by the company for people to do their job and as we're stuck with a 8Mb/2MB Internet connection servicing 25 remote sites and 350 PCs we have to ensure it runs efficiently and effectively as best we can.
