Hi. Me and a friend are downloading a file from a torrent. Since I've finished quick I would like to upload to my friend. It says add peer. What information do I need from my friend to be able to add them to upload and how would I get this information from their system?

I guess this is a very large file? If so maybe burn it on a dvd :D

What speed is your upload and you friend's download connections?

Well I can upload at around 85kb's and my friends download is about 180 kb's. Just want to add to it so file gets done quicker. Cba to go round with a usb everytime for a file.

If you really want to do it like this you can to use utorrent's embedded tracker function.

..BUT I don't think your friend can add your tracker with his existing .torrent and expect it to download from your tracker. I think he would need to use a new .torrent which you need to create specifically for your tracker. I may be wrong here.

In future you could setup a private ftp server so he can download the whole file directly from you at 85kb/s if you wanted.

I was hoping to let my friend leech from others (so have a rough speed of 180kb/s) and then use my full bandwidth of 85kb/s so in total around 260.

Seems very complicating I might leave it.

So you want to dedicate your upload speed exclusively to your friend?

That's easy. Just ask him for his IP address. Find him in the list and block all others by selecting all then right click and select "Block Upload", so he is the only one who's unblocked and everyone else is blocked. Then you will only upload to him, exclusively!

Used to do this all the time on Azureus. (Best torrent application ever)

Why do people never answer the question and come up with solutions that won't work for me lol. It's not as simple as sticking it on a USB and giving it to him otherwise I would. Anyways i'll check out Vuze thanks. They don't live close so never assume.

That's why I said IF. Are these files over 20MB? ;) cos if they are smaller you could just use a drop box type of environment ;)

or is this file a movie? ;)

No

If his max download is 180, your 85kb upload would be included in that 180...

Just set your upload to infinite and it will speed up the file for all, including your friend.

You could use Dropbox or Windows Live Mesh to transfer the file(s) to your friend, easier than setting up an FTP if you don't know how to do that

Sorry my bad I'm explaining this soo badly! The actual broadband itself is capable of 400-500kb/s but for some reason torrents only run from between 50-180kb/s whereas on the same torrents I am able to get my full bandwidth speed of 800kb/s. I have tried my best to get the speeds up and everything seems to be fine and open but it just won't go any quicker. So I was hoping to dedicate my bandwidth to directly upload to my friend.

He's probably limited by his ISP, or a crappy router

How big is this file? or is it multiple files?

Reading between the lines here in this (again) horrifically explained post.. you are saying that you friend's broadband has 400-500kb/s download and you have 800kb/s ? What is your upload connection speed (for the second time)? And how big is the file? Is this a trade secret?
