America is Japans biggest export market, so a lot of their products are tailored towards American buyers.

That doesn't explain why it would be the American's fault that someone in Japan decided to go for an Automatic gearbox. Remember these are JDM Spec used cars that are almost certainly never going to reach U.S shores. At least not in one piece anyway.

No but the expected demand from the US market can justify the development of an automatic drivetrain and for cars like to exist in a majority people have to choose and buy them. Which is obviously what happened in Japan.
