How to clean the inside of your PC?

This isn't so much inside as outside the PC. Thought I'd be smart one time and tried hoovering some crumbs that fell between the keys of my keyboard. Within about 1/10 a second half the keys had disappeared from my keyboard!

As I searched through the hoover bag for various letters what could I do but laugh at such a really stupid supposedly 'quick fix' idea! :)

i just use fine brushes to clean out the fans and other tight areas, then when all the dust is lying at the bottom of the case, its time for the hoover

tbh a vacuum doesn't have enough suck to really compare to compressed air, the nozzle is waaayyy too wide to get in all the places where dust becomes annoying, unless there is a new PC dust cleaning nozzle attachment i dont know of :p

Like i say compressed air for the win, and OP the spray you see is just liquified gas nothing harmfull, as it evapourates in no time, i personally wouldn't use on a PC while turned on, and dont tilt the can on its side or upside down.... you'll get nothing but liquid otherwise ;)

I always have used a very soft paint brush "always using very gentle brushing not pushing and dragging on components" along with hoover

When air is compressed it liquifies, hence the sloshing. anything you see comming out is just liquified air that Foehammer said, will evaporate

Cheers Foehammer and Skeeter, now I understand how the compressed air works :) . Would it be OK then to spray the air straight onto the GFX card / Creative X-Fi / Motherboard? Just want to be 100% sure before I do it this afternoon.

Those of you who are using brushes, do they not cause any static? If not, simply brushing the dust away from some areas seems like a good idea.

Yes, you are ok to do that.

You can also get special anti-static vaccum cleaners, but not worth it IMO.

I've always used a vacuum cleaner, never use it with a nylon brush attachment and never poke with a crevice tool :D

Hog hair paint brush and then just hoover up the dust from the bottom of the case. Job done. Must have cleaned over a hundred computers like this over the years without any issues. No need for that silly (and expensive) compressed air nonsense tbh :p

I use wickes wet n dry hoover/blower, it only takes about 30secs to blow all the dust out of my case, hardware and fans, and it does a darn good job too. The bast thing is that you dont need to touch anything in the case, accept when blowing out the fans, cos it cant be good for them to spin so darn fast, so I give them about 1 sec of blowing without holding the fans, then I give them a good blast while holding the fans still. I would be so lost without the hoover, plus I dont use that hoover for anything else accept for blowing out my pc every 3 months.

Can of Air with one of those mini-vacuum cleaners that they sell with computer cleaning kits have been my tools of choice for some time now.

Although the effictiveness of the vacuum cleaner leaves a little to be desired
