Was thinking of replacing the m.2 drive in my laptop to a bigger one since its only 128gb but it only has one socket so i thought get a usb adapter and clone it that pay but all say they are not compatible with nvme, only msata.

what am i missing is there an adapter out there or some other way to do it?

Firstly, mSATA is a completely different format.

With m.2 there are two different flavours:
1) PCIE drives
2) SATA3 drives

Seeing as you’re using a laptop, your limited to one option. Plug in a normal SSD or HDD and clone your m.2 to that.

Install your larger m.2 drive and clone from the SSD/HDD onto the new m.2 SSD and extend the space if necessary

There isn’t yet a m.2 PCIE -> USB adapter as they cannot emulate the PCIE paths required. You can however get s m.2 SATA -> USB as its just a normal SSD drive in m.2 format.

You can get m.2 external enclosures if you search correctly (or to be more precise, search for them specifically), but if you have a regular 2.5" bay you can also get an m.2 to SATA adapter that will fit in that bay.
