How to Connect VGA Monitor to HDMI Output

How can I connect a VGA monitor to a HDMI output, surely a VGA to HDMI cable wont work as its analogue to digital?

You can get DVI to VGA adapters and they work just fine, DVI is HDMI without the sound, so I see no reason why it wouldn't work?
 
A few reviews on this sort of thing say it isn't working as its analogue to digital.

It won't work because HDMI is an entirely digital signal and VGA is analog.

You can only use a DVI to VGA adapter if it's a DVI-I or DVI-A connector as they includes an analog signal, they don't convert from digital to analog.

The monitor is VGA only and the output of the PC is HDMI only.

Can I do HDMI to DVI and then DVI to VGA ?

Nope. As it's a digital signal. There may be a clever converter box available, but that'd cost more than a new HDMI equiped monitor.

It's new monitor time I'm afraid.
 
Im doing it to have x2 off screens which are VGA, my centre is a HP w2408h 16:10.

So just trying to find a way to connect three cards to one Nvidia card, but this has been resolved as I can use my 2600K and use the HDMI out on my motherboard, but need to find a way to connect to it.
 
I think the only way you will get these three monitors to work is either run the HP monitor off the motherboard output HDMI connection, buy a second nvidia graphics card or switch your graphics card for an AMD model which supports output of three monitors (and buy an active DP to VGA adapter).
 
Yea, that would be fine - I would recommend just running one of the VGA monitors off that GT 520 and run the other two (including the HP) on the GTX 580.

So long as you are only gaming on the primary screen and that one is connected to the GTX 580 then you should experience a performance drop.
