How to cook a jacket potato?

Get a spud, wash and clean it, dry it, ***** with a fork. Rub sea salt into the skin.
Bake in oven @ 200 degrees until done. Hour and a quarter to hour and a half, depending on size. Cut top lengthways and add butter, lightly score with knife so butter permeates. Add filling of choice:

Cheese/coleslaw (add black pepper)
Chilli/Cheese
Baked beans/cheese (add black pepper).

Here's a good one, don't keep your potatoes in the fridge. The cold turns the starch into sugar and the potatoes start to taste funny.

What? It's true!

Keep them dry, cool but not cold and in the dark. They go green in the light.

What crazy people keep potatoes in a fridge?!?!?

Got a fresh huge bag of tattys today so this thread will be gone threw & i will test drive some new tatty meals.Going traditional on cooking method as the oven warms my downstairs nicely so two birds an all that. I have Huge amounts of smokey bacon, beans, cheese, toast toppers in varying flavours & a massive pot of marge. I love my tattys :)

You can't beat the simple way! ***** it with a fork, wrap it in foil and chuck it into a wood fire. Personally I like to grind some pepper into the foil first so that it flavours the skin, but that's just me.

Quick nice way
7mins microwave full power
Then 10 mins in a hot oven to crisp skin
this is how i do it, the first one takes way too long and the 3rd one the skin isn't cooked and not really edible at least not for me

Jacket potatoes should all be destroyed as far as I am concerned.
My hatred of them started when I was in halls at Nottingham Uni (Julian in Cripps Hall if anyone else was around then)

We basically had hard, black potatoes every other Wednesday and I've developed a hatred of them since.
Baking potatoes is a waste of a good vegetable.

What was the name of that student cooking programme some years back, always on really late at night and normally had a grotty student teaching you how to make something like cornflakes on toast. Was funny though.

Doh just remembered "Get Stuffed". We need it back. Too many students are surviving. Oooh it's being repeated.

http://www.getstuffed.info/faq.htm#When & where can I watch GET STUFFED?

Jealousy and an old mans rage I want my teens and 20s back :(
I don't know, never liked students, bunch of scruffy left wingers.

cook it

WITH FIRE!

or just use the microwave till its nearly done then pop it in the oven to crisp it over!

But then you don't get the all over house heat effect that comes from having your oven on for hours or the in the face heat rush you get when you open the door every half hour. Going to be cold this week dudes i'll save the quick method for later in the year.
