How to deal with input lag?

I notice tearing maybe once a week. Are you actually looking for it for it to bother you this much?


It's not just that though, 100fps looks like a bucket of festering lugworms on a 60Hz screeen. Anything over 60 looks just as bad as under 60 really. And of course you are burning your power and heating your GPU drawing frames nobody will ever see.


As for lag......

Mess with triple buffering, and also if your card has the option "max pre-rendered frames" should be 1, it defaults to 3, which can cause up to about 33ms of delay. You must be pretty good to notice that, at MOST vsync should induce no more than 50ms or so of delay at the very very worst, if it's more then I would suggest you are suffering some other, but related, problem.
 
Input lag is input lag, whether caused by panel electronics or frame time delay or anything else... its anything that causes a noticeable delay between the moment you move the mouse or press a key and seeing the response to that action on the screen.

No, it's not. The word "input" in "Input Lag" refers to the lag between the "input" on a monitor and the monitor displaying the image. It does not mean "user input", as in mouse or keyboard strokes.

Input lag is purely a function of the display, nothing else.

Thats display lag... its also input lag when talking specifically about displays - but input lag normally refers to the delay between user input and the result showing on the display.

Actually as I originally said...

Input lag is an umbrella term that includes delay from vsync, delay in showing video when compared to the audio stream played with it or even lag in the mouse or keyboard hardware in processing the signal as well as delays inherent to the panel that the image is being displayed on.

Input lag as a term isn't exclusively restricted to the panel delay in processing its signal input and displaying it on screen.
