how to enable crossfire?

It's in the Catalyst Control Panel, one of the main tabs is called Crossfire, so select that then there's a tick box in the screen that it opens up.
 
but when he goes to ati overdrive it only shows 1 gpu.hes done what you put.is there anything in mb bios.
 
when you click on unlock icon, you should be able to see both cards there

what version of windows is he using?

ask him to try gpu-z http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/979g/GPU-Z.0.1.7.exe
 
right i cant get imageshack to host, but i have downloaded and ran gpu-z

1. clicked arrow on bottom of the gpu-z window and it allows me to select the other gpu and according to the second gpu it says pci-e 2.0x16@x4 and the main gpu says @16...should they both be pci-e 2.0x16@16

2.at the bottom of the gpu-z window under ati crossfire it says disabled(crossfire available)??? even though i have ticked the crossfire and pressed ok in the ccc

3.and it the ati overdrive section it doesnt show 2 gpu,s when you clic on the gpu adaptor??
 
still no joy guys, and does anyone know how to disable the ati sound as it diverted from my xfi when i installed the gfx cards...now got no sound or crossfire :(
 
ive rang the yech guy at ocuk and he suggested putting on the extra bridge as i only had one on lol, so with renewed enthusiasm i done what he said and guess what, it still dont work arrrrggghhhhh....ive checked devices and both cards are showing and ive also downloaded 8.2 driver and still cant get ccc to show my extra card....plz guys have i forgotten something maybe....going by the above image it shows the number1 card syncmaster in brackets and that doesnt show on mine, do u think it might help if i remove one card then re install dricers then add another card or will that be a waste of time guys...NEED ADVICE b4 i throw the pc out the window

have you installed .net framework 3.5? just did but made no difference

used drive cleaner to remove older drivers? no i just uninstalled the nvidia driver via add and remove
is XP a fresh install? no but i got vista sitting here and tempted
in device manager is it showing as 2 seperate display adapters? and yes m8

P.S. crossfire will work fine with one bridge upto 1920x1200
 
anymore info or tips guys...it also looks like the overclocking is locked out of bounds for mr too....its all greyed out
 
A guy i know had this problem on an Asus p5b with a 3870x2, turned out a bios update sorted it for him.. do you have the most up to date bios for the board?.
 
not sure tbh, and i have never ever flashed a bios b4, and i have heard bad stories about, but if it might solve the prob then have to do it
 
im having the same issue and ive got the latest bios on the same board with the same graphics cards

only one adaptor shows up in the control centre

but when u right click the icon on the taskbar it shows up 4 adaptors, when i click enable crossfire it does its thing then shows up 2 but gpu-z tells me crossfire is disaled

also 2 different cards show up in device manager
