Like the title says I'm 16, still in secondary school and need a job to bring in money. I'm not really to bothered what I do I just don't know where to start!?!? I don't know who will take me on and where I should be applying because I don't want to waste time applying to a place that won't consider taking on a 16year old. So what sort of places are going to employ and should I just hand in my cv and take the chance that it might actually reach a manager or go in and ask if there is jobs available for a 16 year old? Any help and advice would be great. Thanks in advance guys!

At 16 I was a silver service waiter in a hotel. It's not a bad job whilst you are still at school, you can get evening hours and shifts at the weekends too so although the pay wont be great you can work enough hours to have a reasonable (for a 16 year old) amount of money.

At 16 you are limited to what you can do really - this isn't to say you aren't skilled, but more what sort of work you could actually get.

Personally, I'd be looking at either the restaurant trade as a waiter / bus-boy, or in retail as a sales assistant; those are the two main areas really.

Personally, I went the retail route at 16 and got what started as a temp Christmas worker for John Lewis, which turned into permanent part-time and I eventually fell back onto as full-time when I left Sixth Form...

I'd stick to those two areas though, look for something that will benefit you and you will enjoy, rather than what pays the most!!

Be talented and do something freelance. I work from home and have never met half the people i do work for, they'd never know if i was 50 or 15

I'll go around all the restaurants, pubs and fast food outlets seeing if they need a worker. Maybe a few of the clothes shops. I'd love to work in the computer shops just building computers but I know they'd just think I was a liability or a kid who thinks hell be playing on computers all day. I was thinking of building gaming rigs and selling them for a bit more on the eBay but I don't thinking there is a large market and don't have the money to get that started.

I was writing Lotus 1-2-3 macros for a pensions company when I was 16.

£10 an hour which, back then, was a lot of money.

:)

Try hospitality, restaurants etc. Usually most jobs at your age you'll get stiffed on the wages but the tips can be good :)

Ebay is flooded with cheap pc's. It won't be worth the time you put into it. The sellers on ebay just buy 2nd hand parts, slap into a system and put it for auction next day.

What sort of wage do you guys think I should be looking at? I don't want to getting ****ed over but tbh I'll do what it takes to bring in money

Local swimming pool and become a life guard, best job ever at that age! and the amount of money you can make in school holidays is crazy for a 16 year old.

Then there's no chance you'd be able to compete and make any money.

A lot of pools will put you through the qualification if you get the job. If not it's only about £200 could always borrow it from parents and pay it back once you start work.

Ah right fair enough! And I'm not that fortunate enough to live with my parents and my career just wouldn't fund it :/

I know kids who make a nice buck off web development.
The best thing you could probably do with your time is probably study as much as you can and getting work experience in the career you want to have.
