Hi,

I have a samsung tv with plex installed on it. You have to tell plex the ip address of your pc for it to stream video.

This works fine until you switch the router/pc off.

I assume it's because it's then assigned a different ip address and the tv is still looking for the previous one.

DG834G router.

Thanks

If on Windows Vista/7 then click start and type 'Network Connections'. Click View network connections.

Right click on whatever connection your using, I only have 1 (wired connection). Click properties.

Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 and then properties.

IP Address: Whatever you want it to be.
Subnet will most likely be: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (Find out which by doing a ipconfig from cmd and see what it is currently)

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/ - I could've just linked this :p

I take it I should give it a late on IP address ? IE 192.168.0.9 for example so it doesn't try to take one that is already taken??

(if that even made sense)

Mine is 192.168.0.100 just for the hell of it. So 0.9 should be fine, if you have a bunch of computers connected to the router though even that could be taken.

You've got from 254 IP address to choose from so :D

Ideally you'll want it to be set to an IP address outside of your routers DHCP pool.

You'll find the DHCP settings somewhere in the routers control panel.

What even happens if a host is assigned with a static IP (192.168.0.2 for example) which is within the DHCP pool and then another host using DHCP comes along and the next IP in the pool is 192.168.0.3?

I should probably know this, I am taking my ICND1 on Friday! Or is it a complicated answer :p?

Then there'd be no issue, one host is on .2 and the other .3

If the DHCP server gives an IP that is in use by a client that is configured with a static IP then there'll be an IP conflict which the host OS will flag up.

Thanks. Done lots and lots of it! Will be revising all week though anyway.

Got a 58% voucher as well because of the Cisco academy which is nice.

Had to do discovey 1+2. Get more than 75% on first attempt of final test for D 2, once I had done the practical lab test (which I had to do on packet tracer because I needed a router module card which we didn't have -.-) I then could apply for it.

If I did 3+4 and met same criteria I would get a voucher for ICND2, but considering im finishing college in a few weeks that's not going to happen!
