Ok guys im absolutely stuffed and seriously ****ed off with BT.
They said 6mb i got 1.5mb ( im on the 20mb unlimated package).
I complained and then i had no internet connection for 24 hours.
When my internet returned i got an amazing speed of 0.2mbps
This among a house of 5 serious internet users is just appauling i can not even browse the internet.
I really cant stand them anymore I have been on the phone for 2 hours today and they say engineers will sort it out give us 48 hours.

last time engineers looked at my line i lost internet connection
2nd time my speed dropped from 1.5 to 0.2 even though in the sale they said i would get 6 (bearing in mind that its up to 20mb i understand that).

When i say im going to leave i would have to pay a cancellation fee even though they are not providing me with what they said i would get which is ludacris.

1.5mb was good enough but 0.2, i didnt even know speeds that slow existed anymore. I live in a city and not far from the exchange - somebody 2 streets away gets 13mb and is not that much closer to the exchange

What i dont get is why they sell you 20mb BB when you can only get 2mb..... Even if what they said is correct, they should only allow you to get 8mb.... Your paying to get 20mb when it is impossible, so why pay the extra.....

ITS MADNESS ?!?!?!?!!

They've sold you something not fit for purpose thus the contract is void. Go to the CAB and get them to contact BT and Bob's your uncle.

I had this issue with a different ISP but normally it’s really hard to get out of contract quickly. I don’t know what BT process is but normally you will have to call log the problem with them and then go through all there tests. You will honestly want to shoot yourself after a week of this because they will want you to do the tests over and over again. When I refused I would get cut off or have my case closed even if I had done the same test that day. Once this is done and nothing has improved you can ask for the call to be escalated and keep escalating through their teams and departments. The problem I had was the ISP I was using kept closing my cases without telling me and then I had to start at the beginning again.

In my case after 2 months of getting nowhere I paid myself out of my contract and they agreed to reduce the amount I had to pay them to basically 1 month’s bill which was good. But from what I hear its really rare they do this normally most force you to pay the full amount and claim it back later after months of complaining. I was only with that ISP 3 months oddly enough the first month was fine and then it went crap straight after the first month.

Normally its all down to over subscription on your exchange but they will never say that’s the reason.

Is that person on the same ISP and if they are what package are they on. Most ISP reasons for bad speed is all down to over subcription on the exchange and package that you are on.

Well I work for Sky and if we run a set of tests over a 24 hour period and find that we can no longer provide you with the package you are meant to receive or what was initially agreed we will offer you a downgrade to a lower package or give you your MAC there and then.

Wire length could be anything though - mine is 3 miles while over the road it's under a mile - basically my house is older and connected to the exchange in the nearest town 3 miles away, over the road is newer and connected to an exchange in the village (didn't exist when mine was built).

Even if they're served by the same exchange your copper pair could be damaged, wet, corroded or simply badly connected.

If you had good service before though someone has probably done something wrong, changing to an LLU provider could help if your exchange has any.

What if I am currently on Sky but moving to a non LLU area for Sky?

Felix im with sky at home (my student house has BT)
My exchange doesnt have an LLU for sky and its awful 120 ping at peak times but i like gaming.
Its fine for internet browsing
