Barts PE lets you put windows on a USB drive for rescue use, i've also used an HP utility ('HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool' free on the HP web site and works with any usb drive) for creating a bootable ODS stick, basically google is your friend, it all depends on what you want to boot to though and what you want to do once you're up and running!
Still can't beat a floppy as tbh a lot of older boards don't support bootable USB and those that do can be picky about the type of USB stick that will boot. for example I have a 512/4GB/8GB/16GB Pen drives, the first two will boot fine on my old P4C800 but the 8GB and 16Gb units won't. YMMV
I apreciate the value of having a floppy, that is why I still use mine.
However some peoples machines that I need access to do not have a floppy drive fitted - although I do not either if theirs would support USB stick booting..!!!
