how to make an old crt tv appear 'on the way out'...?

Does it have a manual adjustment for the colour? I know CRT monitors do, not sure about TVs, but if you gradually change the colour over a week or 2 so that green is at 100% and the rest are at 0, she might think its broken.

Or, when she's out, go up on the roof and disconnect the ariel. The when she complains that the TV isn't working just, turn it off and on a few times, then give it a manly whack or two before proclaiming it to be completely dead ;)

stop being so wasteful. a new TV will not make your life better.

Agreed, sell everything and live in a wig wam ;)

Just be a man and tell her you are buying a new one for both of you. men really are scared of women.

I have gone on at mine soo much that she is shouting at me to buy and stop talking about it :D

Access the Engineer mode, do a google search for the make and model, you should be able to download the manual and set the Green levels very high, so the picture is mainly green and not adjustable with "colour".

Haha, I did exactly this a few years ago to get the mrs to agree to upgrade our CRT to a plasma. I did it by half unplugging the scart (slide it out at an angle). This makes the colours go all weird as if the tube is going faulty.

Depends if your mrs is the sort to start plugging things in and out though to try and fix it. Mine doesnt even know what a scart socket is luckily and it worked a charm

hold up a min...why has no one suggested just growing a pair and coming home with a new telly.

Forget what she thinks, electronics are a MAN's domain!

I was about to suggest that you just tell her you're having a new TV and give the old TV to a charity shop/case. I think the TV suddenly breaking only a few days after you've had a discussion on getting a new TV would be a little suspicious.

Breaking or damaging a perfectly good television behind your partner's back just because you can't agree on something seems childish to me.

Not to mention the fact that when the television suddenly 'breaks' it wouldn't seem odd you were only just talking about wanting a new one?

How old are you? I hope this thread is just for fun, but if you're seriously considering doing this I think there is something wrong.

Knock it off its perch while she's in the kitchen and then yell "Oh no! There's been a terrible accident!" in a most convincing manor.

You're totally missing the point, he will end up with a new telly.

It won't drastically alter his life, he will have the same life but with a better telly in it, how can that be a bad thing?

To the OP, take your TV to a charity shop, your missus will be touched at the sentiment, however she won't want to miss her favourite programs, within the hour she will think it's her idea to buy a new telly, begrudgingly agree with her.

magnet would be your best best. my **** of a sister set a car alternator on top of her telly while cleaning, sat down to watch your man kyle, and got a nice treat to a blue/green screen
