How to make graphics?

But what I don't get is say you want to make a background in photo shop, how do you get the dimensions right. For example how do you get it so that borders fit around the margins on the actual web page etc?

Well, websites are not just one background image, you set the width of the column say with css then make an image that width then set it as the background image with css for that column.

Use photoshop and use guidelines when designing the site, use selection tool which will by default snap to the guidelines so you get it exact everytime. Then you can set about doing the CSS. That's the way I do it anyway :p

Is fireworks better to use than photoshop?

Is fireworks better to use than photoshop?

Honestly I've barely used fireworks, I only use photoshop and a bit of illustrator. Basically fireworks is vector based like illustrator and from what I've heard it has a easier learning curve than photoshop. Maybe there is someone else here who has used them both and could give you a better comparison.

I always slice my images in Fireworks, don't ask me why, I just find it easier(could never get on with imageready). You can do some nice things in Fireworks, but photoshop is by far the better choice for actual design.

I pretty much find myself using both PS3 and Fireworks in tandem to edit and create web images.

I dont really use the Slice tool in PS3 for PSD templates for example, it's just something I've never really looked into.

I have to say I find myself using Fireworks for most of my editing of images as it seems to have a few different and handy tools contained within it compared to PS3. Mind you, the reverse applies so that's why I always end up using both.

As I said in another recent thread, I really like the way Adobe CS3 integrates each individual application to work hand in hand with the rest.

Zinc, who 'da lady in yo' sig? I love that Bra. Dot! Dot! Dot! Dot! *continues counting* :p

As for Graphics, there are many-a-program which aid in being 'artistic', or make it easier to be so. It depends on a lot of factors and what kind of Graphics you wish to produce. :)
