I think there's a post a few pages back that shows a post from sapphire saying to max safe voltage is 1.25 so I'm guessing that why there OC tools stops there.

Yeah thats correct but im not sure why it can only go to 1.225 V, just need that little bit more volts to be stable. Could it be ATI CCC casuing me that issue? Have heard others saying to unintstall it as thats what is casuing the issue.

Well if you want to overclock you are better off getting the versions with the improved cooler. Pretty obvious really.

Are you talking to me? If so, it's also pretty obvious that the Sapphire version's cooler is very much improved over the reference cooler. My temperatures are good with the side panel on. My chip has to be VERY cool to reach 1200 MHz though.

Not specifically to you. Lots of people recently seem to be complaining about temps on reference coolers when they overclock. With summer just round the corner its going to get even tougher.

Had a strange experience last night playing BF3.

Playing metro and my game paused, became windowed and I got several sapphire_trixx has ran out of memory error?.

Anyone have this happen to them?

I have a sapphire non oc one and I need 1.205V at least to get 1200 MHz stable. That's with the side panel off and the fan at 100%. With the side panel on I can't reach 1200 at all.

Hello to all, I have been reading this thread since I bought my Sapphire7850. I had plenty of time to OC and now I would like to share with you my experience.

Which a lot of people seems to not know, is that for achieving 1200mhz of core, the mem should remain about 5500mhz (1375), otherwise your OC will not be totally stable. A 5800 Mhz (1450), or higher, memory OC could cause too many operation errors with a high core clock (this is because of the higher demand). I found 1.176v for core 1200 mhz is perfectly stable with mems at 5500 mhz using Trixx. My temps do not raise 80ºC during gaming. My asic is 84%.

Guys would it be more worthwhile to get a sapphire 7850 @ £185 as opposed to a gtx580 @ £239, If so would I be able to get close to the performance of the evga superclocked 580 with the 7850 if overclocked?

I game @ 1080p and will probably stick to a single monitor and maybe upgrade to a 120hz benq soon...Thanks in advance

Yes a 7850 clocked around 1200 MHz would be around the performance of that superclocked 580, perhaps even slightly higher. It would also have a few other advantages over the 580, but 1200 isnt a given. Make sure you get one with an improved cooler.

I get what you are saying and understand that it might not get to 1200, I was looking at either this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-295-SP or this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-052-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411.

So it is more of a wise choice to go with a 7850 over a 580gtx, Just seems mad that these will clock to the same performance as a 580 . Will the 7850 play BF3 @ 1080p with playable fps at high settings with or with-out the overclock?

Any reason why Asus Tweak or Trixx only allows me up to 1.225V on my Frozr 3? Seen others closer to 1.3V although i dont really want to go much more than 1.25V? Clocks are at 1190MHZ on the GPU and 5Ghz on the ram.

ASUS Tweak has always had a 1.225V limit for me.

A 7850 at stock will play BF3 @ High fine. An OC'd 7850 will play BF3 @ Ultra (FXAA, No MSAA) no problem.

I have mine at 1050mhz core stock memory and have everything on high apart from shadows on medium no motion blur, AO or MSAA but do have AF on 16x and i seem to get 60fps all the tine pretty much with vsync enabled.

Might have to try ultra and see if there is any real difference is graphical detail as well as performance

At 1225/5800 I run Ultra, FXAA, no MSAA and it sits at 60fps vsync'd most of the time. Occasional drop into the mid 50's, and rarely a drop to around 50fps when a lot is going on (like if you're in the middle of an Earth shattering explosion).

Spent the morning overclocking and testing :)

I've stopped at 1230/5200 @ 1.165v simply because I'm so CPU bound now that it's not worth continuing. Looks I have a good card though ^^

Now need to make sure it's BF3-stable.......

Mange to play BF3 on ultra settings without any crashes so far with settings 1200/5500 @1.185v with the MSI 7850 TF3. Looks like the most stable setup for me now I guess. Temperatures are in the 50+ range as well even when fans are set at auto.

Whats the difference between FXAA and MSAA hex? Also with regards to fan profiles is auto when you setup your own fan profile? I set mine up so its like 40% for 40c 50% for 50c like that etc and so far BF3 normally sits between 51c-53c is that considered ok with stock memory clock and 1050mhz on the core stock voltage?

gtx580 is the better card, but for £55 less the 7850 comes very close to it's performance once overlcocked.

I can get 60fps on bf3's ultra default setting 1920x1080p with motion blur turned off. Games like Sniper Eliter v2 and Alan Wake have been giving me problems though, so I've had to reduce the clock. Check the thread for my benches and findings.
