How to repair a split gaiter?

The split gaiter repair thingies only last a month or so (I used one on my Ti), eventually the drive shaft locked and popped out of the diff, not ideal.I can't see how unless it's fitted in one piece it could have any chance of lasting long.

As far as I was aware all of the gaiters are still available?. Mine certainly was when it needed replacing (motor factors iirc).

ITS A BALL JOINT BOOT that keeps the grease it

IT IS NO A CV GAITOR. :p

I havent really come across parts like that from a generic parts list in any autofactors as usuall its just a ball joint replacement. No one really bothers cleaning out, repacking and then re booting. Any break in the gaitor could be enough to let water, dust, grit or debris in that you might not get out again so resealing it with fresh grease doesnt really solve the problem completely and with them being cheap components of high importance explains why you find balljoints and not gaitors.

Go find a ball joint gaitor for a Ford Focus?

Going to see how bad they are this evening, likely to be bike repair kit as a internal fix then araldite in the actual puncture on the gaiter.

Should be back on the road soon :)

Did Rover sell parts then?

No didnt think so.

It was a joke brosef.

I actually appreciate Rovers, for the money its hard to get similar power and they must be great for learning on.

In a way I regret not having to go a similar route so I could service the MX5 myself, its got a small service needed soon, oil change and what ever else (I don't even know), and im going to have to pay £150 or so to have a garage do it.

Why not use one of those universal CV boots? Might do the job.

Nonsense, MX5s are **** easy to work on, you won't have any trouble doing anything like that :)

Did you use a fork type splitter that you wack with a hammer by any chance? These are absolute ****e and i've damaged a balljoint boot before by using one. Get the proper ones with the swivel and bolt as these don't wreck the boot at all.

Are you really serious about gluing it? These balljoints have grease inside them, you have little chance of gluing or repairing it. Do you really want the wheel to fall off on the motorway?
