Hi everyone.

I have a crucial m4 128gb ssd in my laptop as the main drive for the operating system...but it is nearly full now.

I just bought the 256gb version and i want to transfer the OS and all files on my 128gb ssd to this new one...just so i can have more space.

Whats the best way to do that?

Clone the old drive to the new one then expand the parftition to take advantage of the larger drive.

With it being a laptop it's a little more complicated because you'll need some way of connecting both drives at once. Normally a USB caddy will do the trick

plenty of software does cloning and you can pick up a caddy and fit it yourself cheaply and easily i did one myself and found a old laptop hdd and now have that in the caddy as a cheap external hdd

Macrium Reflect + usb caddy/hard drive

Get Macrium to create a live boot CD.
Boot from this.
Use Macrium to create an image of your drive and save it to the USB hard drive.
Turn off the laptop and fit the bigger SSD

Boot from the live cd again
Use Macrium to restore the image from the USB drive to your new SSD.

Reboot and remove the Macrium disc.

Done!

Another way is to download and burn the ultimate boot CD (google it) which is a bootable CD with LOADS of tools on it, then connect your new SSD and boot the CD, simply pick a HDD cloning tool (it has a few) and copy the old SSD to the new one, then eject the CD and reboot from the new SSD and extend the partition in Windows drive manager.
