How to wipe a previously used HD

Well killdisk is taking about 8 hrs, should be ready in teh morning!...and thats the quick sweep!

Don't forget the write speed of the USB interface will be causing a bottleneck, probably less than 30MB/sec in practice.

Eight hours still seems a little slow for 500GB, but... oh, well, I don't know really.

It's a very good tool, but if there's more then one drive attached and you don't want to blast all of them tread carefully. If in doubt disconnect the drives you want to preserve (dban runs from a boot disk, so you can disconnect your main system disk).

I would use Eraser myself, on a 7-pass wipe. Anything more would be a waste of time, and just paranoia.

Well the Kill finished doing...well whatever it does...I assume its a write over rewrite/ delete process, was done when I woke this morning.

However I just boxed it all up to ship off, would the new owner have to format after doing that?...no big deal but jsut so I am aware.

unscrew the case, put the hard drive on. place a screw driver on the disk as it spins. Nobody is reading the data on it (plus you get a pretty little pattern =D)
