After trying to get oblivion running well ive just given up with it like i did morrowind the game just seems like it has been poorly coded.

Does fallout 3 run a lot better? how well does it run maxed out with 4AA 16AF on a e8400 at 3.3 and 4 gig of ddr 1066 ram and 4890?

I run it maxxed out (except for water reflections which I think is on the 2nd highest setting) with pretty much constant 30+ fps. Its quite an easy game to max out :)

Q6600
8800GTS
2GB Ram

With my setup will i get 60fps average and over? im upgrading to core i7 in the following weeks, and will possible add another 4890.

With your setup it souldn't dip under 60fps at all when max out at 1680x1050 with 4xAA and 16xAF.
I get that with a E8400 at 4GHz and a 4870.

Ok thanks. What DLC is currently out? i have seen a add on disk in shops with 2 add ons, but ive read their are a lot of add on content out?

Operation: Anchorage
The Pitt
Broken Steel *the most essential - expands the level limit to 30 and allows you to continue after you finish the main quest*
Point Lookout
Mothership Zeta *released today*

800 Microsft Points each

I find it generally runs OK but is prone to stutter (E4300 @ 3.15ghz, 4GB DDR-700, GTX280). When you pan round in some areas (the pier at point lookout expansion in particular) it gets a little jerky, almost as though there were a VRAM limitation (which I doubt).

Sorry to kinda of hijack this thread, but I'm considering trying Fallout 3 my self. I loved Oblivion and spent a lot of time on it, but mainly because I enjoyed the setting of Oblivion. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the setting of Fallout 3, from what I've seen it looks very futuristic but I think it's something I could cope with.

General gameplay is good though I assume? Seems to be pretty popular.

i love oblivion, it feels omewhat similar (same creator) its utterly good, loads of quests to do, weapons range from, knves and swords to shotgun, laser rifles and rocket launchers

Although it's set in the future, I wouldn't say the gameplay is overly futuristic, I mean sure you've got some future tech etc but to all intents and purposes the basic game mechanics (combat, exploration, quests, dialogue etc) could be set almost anytime after the development of firearms. In fact the game is riddled with cold-war type references, you visit many locations which are lost in time as it were. The general appearance of some sections really isn't that much different than you might see in say a WWII FPS.

I'm considering going the other way and trying Oblivion again, the problem I had before was choosing what mods to run and then I was a bit overwhelmed at the start, I think FO3 does a good job of easing the player into it.

It's similar to Oblivion of course, but feels so much different to play. The story, setting and atmosphere are a billion times better. The FPS/VATS system is fantastic!
