How well will Crysis run??

ok people say that crysis will run in dx9 mode. question is. will it work on dx9 on windows xp?

from all the sources iv read so far indicate that crysis will be a vista only game.
that makes the game very expensive taking into account a whole new operating system for it.

Afaik it will run in DX9 on XP. DX10 is Vista only and Crysis will only be Vista only if you want to run it in DX10 mode.

if crysis works on xp then no need to waste money on vista when it comes out. would be just a silly as buying a agiea ppu when they first came out.

Yeah but some people may still buy it as they're upgrading from say a 9800pro or something similar.. And it's the uberest card out. And some people may just want to use it as a cyber-penis enlarger pump.

No point holding off, the x1900 has been out for donkeys, and thats what the screenshots are from. :p

When everyone rushes out to get their £230+ Vista, and their £350+ DX10 card just for Crysis, im gona be sitting here just PMSL when they all start saying that it hardly looks any different to DX9, £600+ for it as well PMSL, its hilarious how everyone thinks that when its ran on a DX10 card its gona look like a totally different game, the graphics are gona change completely, i can't wait. :D :D

Thats why Im sticking with a dx9 card, cos come on its only going to be a few more special effects. I bet you wont hardly notice any diff.

actually those crysis videos are done using 2 x1900xt's in crossfire, and the framerate is still choppy as is apparent in those videos.

Only ppl who need to buy the first wave of DX10 cards are those with low end cards etc... that are struggling in DX9, and they want the fastest DX9 cards around, anyone with a high end card is absolutley bonkers getting a one as their cards will last well into next year, possibly longer, and by that time how many DX10 cards will have been and gone = stacks, and how many games with DX10 features will be out that also run fine and dandy on your DX9 card in XP, wont be many i bet.

depends which vids they are ;) , either way it is still early code

Yeah and have you seen how good it looks on the x1900, thats ALL DX9, now ask yourself, if thats ran on a DX10 card, is it going to look totally different to that, if it does i will go out and buy a hat.

Yeah, but Crytek are fantastic coders. Hopefully we'll see the same superb performance we got with FarCry.

i never said it would look different in the first place...

It will look better and run better with DX 10 Hardware IMO.

But some of those videos look out of this world with DX 9 hardware already.

This game looks amazing :)

I know you didn't, it just seems everyone thinks its going to look like a totally different game when its ran on a DX10 card to what it does on a DX9 one, ppl are expecting to be going 'oh new game, looks awesome what is it' ' its just Crysis running on a DX10 card' 'really looks nothing like it' etc... but that won't be the case at all, yes it will look slightly better on a DX10 card, but everyones expecting to much imo. :)

It already looks better than any game currently out there.

Yes running in DX9, but everyone thinks when ran in DX10 its gona look nothing at all like that, but it will, slighty better effects in places imo, lets wait till its out, and if im wrong great, but i cant see DX10 being used more in games until it matures, further down the line, first wave of DX10 games are just gona look slightly better than they do in DX9 when ran on a DX10 card, but the first wave is what though, as they aint gona flood out.

Seems like a lot of ppl are going to rush out to spend the £600 on Vista, and a DX10 card as they are expecting way to much, but they will only be dissapointed imo, end up getting Crysis and saying 'is that it, spent £600+ on that, it only looks slightly better than a DX9 card under XP'.

The vids were of the game running on mofo huge monitors at kiosk stands in e3. And the videos I watched (well over 200/300mb) looks quite stunning to say the least.

But you know they are going to optimize it, then make it better, and foolow the trend of current gen hardware (current gen for when its released) and optimise the game for that level of hardware. So it'll get bigger and better and look even more amazing than it does now, unless your running "nows" hardware, where itll look the same? :P

Theres no point pondering if your stuff will run it now, it wont be out till next year, and by then you could have won the lottery and have a supercomputer, or sold on your pc. IMO no point planning so far ahead, just wait a bit

EDIt: There are also some dx10 official vids let out, with some nice effects and such on. Cant remmeber totally as it was a while ago, but it did make an improvement.I spose we just have to wait and see what goodies they have for us :)
