How would my machine run the witcher 2 ?

Are you all being completely honest about how you can run it?

I'm currently running a Quad core Phenom x4 955 @ 3.2Ghz, 8GB of 1333mhz DDr3, and a 2GB 6950 @ 850/1300

And I can only get 45-60fps on high settings, on ultra I would be around 30 and below which to me is completely unplayable, are you just playing at sub 30 fps or do you know something I don't?

*edit* I'm only running at 1680x1050 too, other people with inferior rigs claim to be running at 1920x1080 at ultra, fps dips would be way into single figures, sure it will look nice but do people just put up with the terrible frame rate for looks?

You know you cant see any difference beyond 30fps?

Im running on medium @ 1680 x 1050. No blur or anything that just gives me a head ache. Getting average of just below 28fps (sometimes just above 30!)
I have an 8800GT and 2.4 quad 4 gig of RAM (same age as the 8800GT) Computer hardware is so over rated.

This and Crysis are the only games i have not been able to play on near on the highest settings.

I can, I always aim for 60fps, it feels so much smoother, I would much rather lower the settings to high (that sounds weird) and play with an average 60fps sometimes dropping to the mid 40's than play at ultra at 30 sometimes dropping to the mid 20's

I'm currently running it with everything on the highest setting (ubersampling off) at 1920x1200 and I get a small stutter every now n again and when a new area is loading but other than that it looks and runs brilliant.

How demanding is this game? Because his spec is decent, apart from i know the 5700 series can be a bit of a let down.

Where do people get this from ? :p

The Force Unleashed was capped at 30 fps and it took me AGES to get used to it being that low.

Don't get me wrong, many games are playable at 30 fps but for shooters I will want 60 fps minimum.

What a load of tosh.

That was debunked yonks ago, but 30fps is playable on some games.

Oh, I didnt know that. Still doing fine with my 8800GT though. Its likely only consoles that hold back writers using latest pc hardware, which give reason to pc hardware being over rated. Why pummel money into games that wont run on the biggest gaming platforms.

The Witcher 2 is the first game to actually go beyond my 8800GT's capibilities is such a way that makes me have to reduce my native resolution (even on my laptop which has the 280M - a mobile equilivant of the 8800GT)

I have the same system specs as the OP and i played it fine at med/high settings @ 1680x1050 i did tweak with it a bit but in the end it was very playable and still looked amazing. 5770 is still an amazing little card! People who say otherwise don't have a clue.

Ultra settings, no uber, 1920x1080, hits the vsync and stays there (60fps), occasionally drops down to ~55 in high action. CPU temps peak at about 58c and both GPU's float around the 70c mark.

Looks fantastic, really enjoying the game.

Thanks for the comment guys, much appricaited !!

hmmm if i were to upgrade something for this game what would it need to be ? my set up is in the opening post, would a new graphics card run well with that that quad core i have ? or would my processor bottleneck it, would also like my rig to perform better on future titles like battlefield 3, skyrim, arkham city

Crossfire GPU's, perhaps try push that CPU closer to the 4ghz mark. Should keep costs down while raising performance.

Radeon 5850 or 5870, can't remember, with 6GB and it runs on very high with no problems.

Shame the game is the biggest disappointment, for me this year. I actually think it's crap... and I have lost all faith in the developers as it is obviously designed for consoles and it seems PC gamers are the BETA testers.
