Can you come from the ceiling down to the TV ?
IE: Spur off from the up stairs ring main that maybe under the up stairs floor boards and straight down to a socket behind the TV..(Would this be allowed ?

Yeah 30mA rings a bell. Sounds expensive, all for a bloody wall mounted TV.
Surely others have experienced this problem
Rules and regulations these days eh...
I am sure many people have come across similar issues.
i am also pretty certain many people just do what they want and ignore rules and regulations, and let someone else worry about it, if and when the house/flat is ever sold.

This is a very good point. One I'd never considered either.
I'd be keen to know if this is allowed too as I do actually have a socket almost directly above.

If you do connect to the upstairs make sure it’s labelled as connected to the upstairs ring (assuming they’re separate).
