Is it poorly?

The stats aren't good. But if its an old drive, that is normal.

I have an old seagate 160gb that performs similarly.

What disk are you using?

Try using CrystalDiskInfo to read the S.M.A.R.T data or error scanning with HDTunePro

Looks like it on its way out.

Do you have another disk to hand that you can install a free copy of windows on? Also, backup any important files.

Then format the Maxtor disk. Once formatted, use Western Digital Data LifeGuard (or similar) to Write Zeros.

Although this can help disks with bad sectors, it's unlikely it will completely fix the problem. You are much better buying a new disk. Prices are starting to drop again after the floods.

Any suggestions on what's a good buy? As if I think about it, this HDD is pretty old and looking at the speeds it's not worth even 'repairing'.

Neat, might try that myself. I always wonder how my HDD is getting on. Is there a similar tool for SSDs?

HDTune Pro will do health and benchmarking for HDD and SSDs.

A HDD with a large cache would be good for an OS drive.

^^ i think that drive is only 5400rpm though
