HP DM1

Cheers. I'll ask Santa for some memory and see what happens! :p

Edit: the 11.11 drivers for 32bit Win 7 are the right ones to use right?

Go to the site below and type in your model number in the box (ie DM1-4027sa) and then select Windows 7 64 bit from the OS options. This will ensure you get the correct drivers. Really you just need the Wireless LAN Adaptor drivers and HP Support Assistant (the former will get you connected to t'internet and the later will download all the rest).

NEXTJXMAS15 is the code getting it down to £254

through topcashback website it can additionally go down to £228 (i don't know how this works exactly and if there is a catch somewhere...)

Received my DM1 this morning via Citilink, been using it for the past hour and I am generally very impressed. I tried to watch BBC Iplayer in HD and it was like a slideshow!! Is this normal? I tried a 720P Youtube video and it was very smooth. Has anyone else got Iplayer HD to play smoothly?

Its not a slideshow for me, for the most part its smooth with the odd stutter, see what is going on in the background.

I only tried the apprentice final

It was Windows Mail causing the problem, it was downloading 10,000 emails from the Gmail IMAP server and a few windows updates downloading as well. :o

Now all those are completed Iplayer HD runs very smoothly. I haven't installed the SSD yet, I will do that at the weekend.

Use BF2011HP to get 10% off now instead, then get topcashback as well.

Thanks, do you think we'll see another 15% off code in the near future or should i just get it with 10% off code before that goes and the next code is lower?

Hi. First post on this forum.

The name is Nic and I'm down in darkest Dorset. I've been following this thread since buying a 4027ea from ******* at the weekend for £299. I can't even open it yet though as it's my christmas pressie from the inlaws (How cool is that!?)
I was happy with the unit as standard but after reading up on here, I'm already keen to see what can be tweaked and so get the best from it.

So as I have a few days before I can get my hands on mine, I've got to get my fix from reading about yours. My main interest is what can be done to set asside memory for the GPU; has anybody had any success with this yet?

Cheers,

Nothing can be done to it really bar memory and even that's not really worth doing, its a cheap netbook, no real power or ability to get any, leave it at that and enjoy it. :)

Thanks for that Sandy(S). I've noticed you've been sitting on the "Leave it alone" side of things. Is it really worth bumping up to 64/7? - I'm gonna dump the bloatware and don't really intend to mulitask to any great extent.

Also, what's the link all about on your avatar? It's dead when you click on it.

Ah my link is a website that moved long ago but I rarely contribute to these forums until I bought the Lenovo x121e and then DM1, I'll fix it later.

I ditched 32 bit and went 64 bit only because I had the 8gb memory lying around from previous machine, there is not really a lot of bloatware that you can’t uninstall.

Only thing you can do that might speed things up is a better HDD but to be honest is seems fine to me as it comes, I do have a momentus XT I will put in soon, it’s a hybrid SSD/HDD drive which should speed up VM loads from saved states but even if the SSD is super the CPU will likely hold it back from being optimum.

I'm thinking about buying one of these, I fancy an ultraportable again. How is the fan on these, does it spin constantly and make a noise or is it silent or nearly silent most of the time when just browing and doing general desktop work? I can't abide noisy laptops ...especially when they aren't power houses.

Its pretty quiet nearly silent for most of my use, not really heard it fire up loud even under load though it does become more audible, the machine doesn't generate much heat generally.
