HP Pre 3 released

I suggest that if CPW and HP have gone down the greed route that we all protest by boycotting their respective brands.

It is the most effective way for us consumers to deliver our message of dissatisfaction. I would especially urge all of the online retailers that have been hammered with orders and enquiries only to have them left holding nothing but a huge backlog of cancellations to return ALL HP PRODUCTS that they can get refunded (I assume distance selling alws apply to them equally). As for CPW I can only suggest anyone already on them to move to another provider as soon as possible, cut them out of their income as best you can.

This is maybe a bit early days yet, but for something like this to work it would need a large amount of people to join in. So , WHO IS UP FOR IT?

It's a company - its sole purpose is to make profit. Americanbrian is being more than somewhat silly.

I'm not gonna bother with one unless I can get it sim free and at a cut price. The price was the main interest for me as I've never felt comfortable paying out several hundred quid for a phone. It's not bloodymindedness, just my own budgetary requirements.
Although I'd be lying if I didn't feel the price returning to full retail, or being tied to a contract is the main point putting me off it now. It would be nice to have one to go with the tablet but I won't be held to ransom, I'll just keep using my basic samsung slide phone with no bells or whistles.

@ Fini and Whybss

Have they cut the price? did I miss something? I payed £479 for 2 if the sim-free ones.

If they have dropped the price I would appreciate you telling me where you heard this.

I did say IF they take the phones at cut price and then pass on NO reduction to those that payed full price just on thurs.

I only suggest a boycott if they try to monopolise the handset to basically deny people the savings from HP which EVERYONE knows they got.

So CPW got a saving on stock - why should they pass that on to you? What they've done (buying EOL stock cheap) is something most companies do. Why are you somehow morally outraged at a company applying good business sense?

Because now I know just how much they are trying to squeeze out of me for the service of them using monopoly tactics to overinflate a price.

Do you know how much hassle this has caused online retailers all over the UK? What extra does HP get out of selling them all to CPW? What does it matter to them if CPW buy them or everyone who has been eagerly awaiting them buys out the stock in a day?

This just seems like HP choosing to screw over everyone that bought the complimentary touchpads, or any other person who specifically wanted a webOS device.

See what the (insert regulator of choice, i.e. FTC or OFT etc.) would do if this happened to stock on the FTSE or NASDAQ.

It would be called insider trading and would lead to HEAVY penalties and possibly prison time. Just because these items are physical stock and not shares in a intangible company I don't see the realistic difference.

I don't think you really understand shares at all. Anyway, I can see you won't see sense on your one-man war.

note in particular this gem:

"charging different prices to different customers where there is no difference in what is being supplied"

Now consider I payed over £960 for 2 off said phones sans services. Now they are offering the exact same 2 phones for £504 (2 years at £10.50/months for two phones) and including network minutes AS WELL.

I believe that would satisfy the OFT that this is not a particularly "fair" transaction.

But whatever dude, and no, I don't have a great grasp on the "markets". It just seems pretty obvious to me that there are fair ways to do business and that this doesn't seem to be one of them.

I'm well aware of the legislation having had to study it as part of one of my two law degrees. It is not abusive to buy stock, otherwise everyone would constantly be being fined. The relevant market, in any case, would be Tablets, for which this forms a tiny proportion and for which CFW are not in a dominant position.

Actually, this is about phones. And these are the only phones that run webOS and integrate with the touchpads.

It is abusive to buy ALL the stock so that there can be no competition for that market segment.

I see though that you have two law degrees and live in London, This doesn't really give me much faith in your understanding of morals or fairness, as both lawyers and Londoners seem devoid of such things.

Perhaps you should change your signature to be "Ich bin die Kraft, die stets das Böse will und stets das Gute schafft"

I wish I cared about the pre3 but i just dont and suggesting I boycott the two companies because people cant get the phone from anyone other than cpw now is just ridiculous. Especially given I've only recently bought the brilliant 32gb touchpad for £115, why on earth would I want to boycott them now?

I understand people might be disheartened but seriously, there are better phones out there if you aren't willing to pay the contract prices.

Oh and BTW, fini, your rebuttal contained nothing that addressed the issue of charging different prices to different customers for the supply of the same item.

Classic lawyer/politician move, reply to a seperate issue than was being discussed.

That clause exists for a very different reason.

See what Intel did to screw over AMD by supplying chips at different prices to different buyers.

The entire section is about anticompetitive behaviour. What happened to you has nothing to do with that.
