Guys,

I have £100 overdraft with HSBC, I never go into it, I've had it as long as I can rememeber since I opened my account with the bank about 9 years ago.

HSBC have been sending me letters saying they're reviewing everyones overdraft and drawing up new terms and conditions. Ii read my latest letter briefly and saw a £25 admin charge for all of this, I kinda didn't really take this in until now I've seen £25 come out of my account!

Has anyone had similar thing happened to them? What the hell are they charging for, the blooming letter getting sent to me?!

It's annoyed me to be honest!

Thanks

Andy

i would call them up and say I never asked for a review no give me back my £25, HSBC in my experience are a bunch of thieving ****s

I've got a 'Green' account so they don't send me any 'Paper' corrispondance!.. hopefully if they send me a mail to my online banking inbox they WON'T charge me the admin fee!.. it they do I'll kick up a fuss!..

The amount of work involved is pretty much the same the only difference would be the cost of postage.

lol makes me all the happier I left hsbc. everytime I see that abbey national advert with the annoying fat guy with glasses I think "ah - anti hsbc advert"

I've had this before. Some kind of annual arrangement fee.

Hang on, here we go, I thought I'd queried it at the time - I was angry too:

Thank you for your e-message dated 7 January 2008.

Please be informed that the bank has now introduced an annual review for the formal limit held on your account. This will provide us and you with the opportunity to consider whether your overdraft facility is still appropriate to your borrowing requirements.

I confirm that the GBP 25.00 charge applied on 1 December 2007 to your Bank Account refers to a formal arrangement fee as we have agreed to renew your formal limit for another 12 months period.

A letter advising you on this matter has been sent on 28 October 2007.

In accordance with the bank's Personal Banking Terms and Conditions and our Fair Fees policy, we will not charge an arrangement fee provided within the last six months we have not agreed to a request from you for a formal or informal overdraft facility.

Whilst the bank is pleased to continue to provide you with a new 12 month overdraft facility a fee is payable for this as an informal overdraft was requested by yourself during charging period 26 September 2007 to 10 October 2007. Consequently I am unable to waive this fee.

Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact us on 08457 404 404. Alternatively, you may call into any local HSBC branch.

Kick up a fuss.

I received an unsolicited £500 overdraft.

There was no initial charge for it, and I'll never use it.

A cynic would say that they do this in the hope that people will take their eye off the ball and dip into it.

I've been hit by this 2 years running now, the first one I put down to the transition from my student account to a normal account without reducing my overdraft, they did the same the next year though, not contested it yet as I do keep running into it a couple of months a year

I guess they have to make money once they lose that overdraft charges case and have to pay back millions to all the people they robbed

Surely they are more likely to make money by not letting you have an overdraft, but instead letting direct debits/cheques fail and charging you when you run out of money.

Note: I don't mean 'you' in particular, it's the royal you. :)
