HTC Desire HD (Ace)

What network are you on Robbie?

Vodafone, but they didn't do anything to the dhd as far as I can tell, as the software version numbers have always been the same as the factory phones and there's no visible branding or software.

Bizarrely, the little triangle has now disappeared so maybe it was always there but only in certain situations .

Well I am now back to factory clean (well I think)

I unrooted and then downloaded the .exe 1.32 ROM and re-installed the phone through Windows. Straight after it finished I went ahead to try and update the phone to the latest 1.72 version in check for updates, but HTC reported that their were no updates unavailable??

Anyway I found the latest .exe 1.72 version, downloaded that and installed it onto the phone through Windows. Is their a reason to why the phone could not detect the 1.72 update while running the clean stock 1.32 ROM? Do HTC stop previously rooted phones from being able to aquire new updates?

Thanks all - Liam

Ok so here's the thing. I came from an HD2 where rooting and installing custom ROMs was basically a necessity, so I'm not adverse to it.

I'm now on 757 hours uptime on my DHD and have no problems/qualms at all. Why would I want to install a custom ROM/Gingerbread?

The only reason I rooted mine was so that I could get rid of all the Orange crap that they preloaded and I never use.. Although I didn't go for a custom ROM this time, just the latest stock HTC ROM! :)

Hey guys,

So i've had mine DHD for about 3 days, completly loving it. Hands down the best phone i have ever owned.

Is launcher pro worth getting for the DHD? In terms of customisation, what does it offer over the stock sense ui?

Download the free version from the market and give it a go. Personally I like it the are many customizations and it does "feel" faster and slicker to me.

The paid version unlocked some additional widgets which ironically i dont use but l dont mind because the guys why wrote deserve the 2 quid it cost me for their efforts.

exactly same for me. Used free version and realy liked it...bought it as I thought there would be a lot more options...but it didnt change much. So free version is enough realy.

I'm still on 1.32 on my never been rooted DHD. I also went to try and install 1.72 OTA and I got told that that no update was available .
I'm wondering if HTC pulled the update because of notification problems.

I bought the paid for version just for the swipe gesture. But IMO it is the best dock for android.

Hi guys

My N96 contract is about to run out.

I've been offered the following 24month deal for the Desire HD:

300mins unlimted texts and 500mb internet. After cashback, it works out as £18 a month. Good deal to get? I'd probably not need more than 300min, as my current deal is 600mins and I used hardly any of it.

Quite possible,

If that is true then we may well see a new OTA update to be released fairly soon. Strangely enough though, since going back to a clean stock 1.72 ROM I have not experienced the SMS bug again yet!

I'm using LeeDroid on my DHD, pretty good Sense rom. Have this strange bug sometimes where mobile internet stops working and needs a reboot. The icon up top just shows the up arrow flashing but not down arrow activity. Anyone had that?

Yeah they pulled the update, though to be fair I've never experienced the SMS bug on the 1.72 ROM.

Is there an app, similar to how you can talk to search, where you can talk to text?

So, basically, you talk into the phone, and it converts it into a text message ready to be edited before sending? If not, there should be. :p

i was a dumbass and asked that also a while back...when you text on the keyboard (on screen) there is a key with a microphone symbol...hold it and speak! It kinda works OK actually.

Vlingo - works better than the native google app

ive been using this phone form new for about 2 weeks now....and the last few days ive found it to be a bit slow and laggy and jittery to use. Is this normal..and any particular reason for it?

My housemates DHD was very laggy recently which perplexed me as mine had been so smooth and fast, even after restoring to factory settings it was still very bad, the thing that fixed it was switching on USB debugging in the app options...

A known bug apparently.
