Is there any way of deleting background tasks like the weather sync, amazon mp3 etc that I don't use and are no doubt draining my battery?

I've not rooted.

I know you can get task killers but do they not close things down that you might need?

It's best not to use task killers on 2.2, just not needed...

Best way to get rid of all the junk is to root phone and install a nice clean rom

I'm using Android Revolution 2.0.9 at the moment and battery life is fantastic as well as everything being super fast. Also flashed the non-sense version so all that junk is gone to.

not 100% sure but with amazon mp3, if you download the latest version you can stop it loading at startup. As for weather sync can't you disable that in the accounts and sync menu when you select what to autoupdate?

As said, don't use a task killer. On my rooted phone I rename the .apk's to .apk1 in root explorer which uninstalls them. I've managed to save the best part of 100meg of RAM by removing all the preinstalled rubbish.

Cheers mate. Seems inconvenient that you need an app to write to the root. Is there any advantage to being able to do so? Chances are that I'll be using a memory card with the phone anyway.

It is for installing programs that need access to the root of the phone and installing modified operating systems. You don't store your music on the root of the phone, that still stays on the memory card.

Qualcomm have officially listed the DHDs scorpion cpu at 1.4Ghz (1Ghz before)
Wonder if HTC will bump the speed with a patch? :p (or are you all overclocked already?)

Well I got my phone back from HTC yesterday, and unfortunately the camera blur is still there :(

After doing a few new photos and video samples yesterday, the camera started to develop this strange new problem and it only started with a few dark pink lines going down the screen but the problem has got much worse this morning and it won't go away now, no matter if I take a photo or a record a video the problem is still clearly visible as you can see in the photos below & on my YouTube video. I've also restarted/shut down the phone a number of times and tried difference camera settings but the problem won't go away.

I also purcahsed Vignette off the Android Market last night after someone recommended it to me but the problem is still there in Vignette as well. I am not certain if this new problem is related to my original camera blur, but I am definately convinced now that my camera must be faulty on my DHD. I have had the phone back from HTC less than 24 hours and it is going back to them on Monday, I've just got off the phone to them and they have happily agreed to have the phone in again for another repair. I will also be printing off these 2 sample photos and I will be sending them with the phone so HTC can have a bigger idea.

Naah it wil cost them too much as they'd have to send each customer a decent sized battery too ;) :D

Can anyone tell me how to root the phone and install a custom rom?
I'm completely new to this having just come from a Blackberry.
I guess there are sites which give all the relevant info but you guys seem to know all about it. Maybe you could guide me where to go?

I'd link but I'm on my dhd and its a faff. Do a search of the forum for.my name and this (bread, I hacked together a few guides to make an easy to follow all in one, people say its decent enough so should be everything you need with all the links.

My HD has stopped reading the memory card that came with it, it says insert SD card, has anyone got any ideas of what might cause this or how to fix it? pain in the ass as ive over 300 pics on this :(

Dont know if this has been covered but i found this on the xda forums regarding battery life and flash and seems to feel like it has merits, i do get the feeling my battery seems slightly improved and snappier over all.

Ok i have posted these comments elsewhere. At the moment I have been lihjtly using my phone and it has been on standby since 1930 (10/2/11) and currently it stands at 80% charge at 1430 (11/2/11)

All I have done is turn flash to on demand (internet-settings-enable plugins- select on demand) I have also got the option to turn my mobile data usage off as well.

The idea came from a blog I was reading about macbook air and why Apple does not ship it with Flash, as it is this software that chews into the Macbook airs battery.

So i applied same idea to the DHD and Voila!
