  1. Download and install CeRegEditor firstly (desktop based), if you haven't already: http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/
  2. Find an icon you like (http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=filetype:png+facebook+icon) and save it
  3. Connect your phone (ActiveSync)
  4. Put the FB icon wherever you want (I stick em in \My Documents\)
  5. Load up CeRegEd and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\Home (I'd also recommend bookmarking this)
  6. Find the number which relates to your Facebook URL quicklink (starts from 0 and goes left to right down the rows) and change the IconPath to wherever you put yours, ie \My Documents\facebookicon.png
  7. Reset!

And this is why I love WM :). And tbh it's worth doing with all your bookmarks - I wish they used Favicon's instead of screenshots (or at least gave you the choice).

Couple of questions from a current iPhone 3G user who fancies a change.

I use Sky Mobile a lot for watching football at work ;) How does that work on the HD2?

Continuing with that, I use a hack to enable me to stream over 3G when the app SHOULD only work over WiFi. Does the HD2 (WinMo) have a similar limitation?

Finally, anyone gone from an iPhone to an HD2 and liked it? I'm so used to having apps that do everything I want, I'm not sure the WinMo dev community is going to cut it.

Thoughts?

I've gone from a 3GS to a HD2, and I'm not keen at the moment. I dont want to sound like one of these iPhone bandwagon riders, but I prefer the iPhone.

I think the HD2 is a superior device in many ways, it seems to eat up everything that I throw at it, the battery life is better and the web is far superior.

On the flip side, the UI is awful, the touch screen is far too sensitive, the volume control for media playback keeps on giving me software errors causing me to reboot the phone, and I dunno, I just dont like it :<

I'm currently using a Bold 2 as my main phone to tide me over while my HD2 sits with my second number in it feeling lonely.

hmmm I'm due for upgrade today but i checked on the Tmobile site and when i go through the upgrade your phone option it doesn't appear, but after reading the forums they don't appear to have any stock anyway.

Got my new toy yesterday and I'm loving it, even without a sim card yet!

I have one question: when MS releases Winmob 7, will HTC update the HD2 to it?

I've seen claims that it will support 7 "out of the box" but I cannot find any proof to that, though the hardware is certainly up to the task.

Is anyone else having problems with texting ?

Its not the problem of taking ages to write a text, I seem to have lots of problems sending and recieving, sometimes it can take up to a day for someone to recieve a message i've sent them or they've sent me,

Not sure if its a handset or vodafone problem, anyone have any ideas ?

have changed it over from Traditional and conversation mode and it doesnt seem to make any difference.

I dont have any problems with signal and its really starting to annoy me

Been with 02 for 6 years and they offered me thsi for the HD2:

18 month Contract

40 a month which includes 5 pounds off a month with the following:

free phone
1200 mins 1000 mins
free bolt on of my choice

Whats the deal compare like to other peoples here? I would never use that many minutes and a cheaper tariff would include a one hundred pound fee for the handset.

Borich

Can definately be had for cheaper on another network. Got mine through mobilephonesdirect, unbranded phone with T-Mobile sim. You can get the phone free for 34.26 a month, 700mins and unlimited texts/net.

Threaten to leave (retentions) Last year they offered me straight off (without haggling) the £45 and free phone contract for £35 (for the X1) so I would at least expect that with a bit of haggling.:)

So are people happy with the HTC HD2 or not? I am really tempted but am out off by the windows mobile killers.

the only problem i've had with it is getting use to texting on a touch screen, and that's because this is my first touch screen phone. Not had any other issues, no crashes, no sms bug that others have reported, nothing. It's been a great device for me personally

Yep another happy customer here. My first touchscreen and WinMo phone and i thinks its great. Does take some getting used to but its been bang on, very impressive device. Also no sms problems here and i'm on T-Mobile, so looks like it could be a Vodafone thing.

it may have already been answered but i couldnt find it, whats the gps/sat nav like with this phone, and does it suppoort turn by turn for UK? cheers

Phone is fine definitely ignore the WinMo naysayers!

Only problem I have is the default twitter client no longer connects to anything :(

Anyone know how to fix that?
