**HTC HD2 Thread**

I would say the phones4u fella has mixed up the two. People often confuse FM transmitters and receivers. Indeed it would be handy but most often it is done via bluetooth.

I can confirm through Virgin that its completely devoid of any branding either on the outer surfice or within the software. Again IT IS completely unlocked as I have it running with my vodafone sim card due to work.

Chris

Thanks, just my luck Virgin have now ran out of stock :( Hope it isn't too long for them to get some more in.

my nokia n97 has an FM transmitter and I find it great for the car - couldnt really do without - Phones4u just called HTC who said it does have it????? Can anyone with the phone take a quick look and tell me for sure.

It doesn't.

But you could just buy a transmitter, they shouldn't cost much?

I use my phone in the car to listen to audio books, a lot, the car stereo does not have BT or a line in etc and its quite old. FM transmitter was a quick and easy way to do this, no extra bits, no fuss etc.

@ mr tommo - you said no FM transmitter as stated above but the link doesnt say it hasnt got an FM transmitter - theats my problem, I need someone to physically check - the nokia sites all left it out too!

You can get a transmitter that plugs in to your cig lighter with an audio cable in to your phone.

Simples.

Does seem like a weird thing to write a phone off about.

Anyone move to this from a 3G or 3GS? I am tempted to get one for free and pay off the £200 odd remaining on my current VF contract with my HTC Magic.

I'd like to get some new headphones for mine as the HTC ones are huge. Would sets designed for iPhones/iPods with the pause, skip etc buttons work with the HD2?

Funny you should ask this as I litterally tried this 5 mins ago with my mates HD2 and my iPhone earphones.

The answer is yes and no. I don't know the HD 'clicks' to do stuff, but when I clicked it once, it played/paused the music, just like it should on the iPhone. When I double clicked (should skip to next track), it tried to initiate a phone call on the HD2.

It has an X next to fm transmitter.

Solution - get a headunit which has line-in or buy seperate fm transmitter

Looking at this phone, could owners answer some questions for me.

How long is the battery lasting with normal use?

Can it be upgraded legitimately to W7 on it's release?

What's the Facebook app like? Is it a touch on the iPhone one?

How does the camera perform?

What's texting like?

Does it crash often? How stable is it?

And finally, what is browsing full internet pages like?

I get about a day with average use, 20-30% left when I go to bed at midnight

I believe so, don't quote me though

It is awful, times 100. I use touch.facebook.com as a bookmark on the homepage and it is great. Don't even bother with the app.
How does the camera perform?
Camera is fairly decent, same with video. I don't really use the features though so won't comment too much
What's texting like?
It is great with the swype app!
Does it crash often? How stable is it?
Mine has crashed once in a month and a half
And finally, what is browsing full internet pages like?
Web browsing is great, no flash player with opera though so you need to switch to internet explorer which is pants. pages load really quick in opera.

hth

On heavy use, it'll last 20-24 max, normal 30-36 and very very light around 48 hours. Not too bad really for the features and size of the screen.

Some rumours have said it might, and it was "officially" confirmed by HTC Russia on a post on their official Twitter. All likelihood points toward a yes, but as said, it's anyone's guess at the minute!

Not very good, kind of hacked together for a release. I use Opera with http://touch.facebook.com or http://lite.facebook.com and get great results out of both sites, though very often I'll just use the standard site and have no problems at all!
How does the camera perform?
Camera quality is great in the day and the pink issue is almost resolved. At night though, I find that the camera is way too bright and over exposes a lot of pictures when used with the flash.

Fine here, keyboard is a tad sensitive when you first get it, but once you get used to it it's quite good. I use Swype as the main input for the past week and have really enjoyed it! The text messaging part is fine for me and have no problems (since applying the latest SMS update from HTC).
Does it crash often? How stable is it?
Not that often, I'd maybe have to reset every 2 days or something but that's because I'm doing an awful lot of customisations. I'm running a custom ROM by Touch-IT from XDA and it's very fast and stable.
And finally, what is browsing full internet pages like?
Great! I can sit on my phone using the browser for ages. Opera 9.7 is fine with multi touch pinch to zoom; Opera 10 Beta 2 is even faster and renders sites a lot better in my opinion, but doesn't support pinch to zoom only double click zoom but it's fine for me at the minute!

Hope that's cleared a few things up. I try to remain impartial, I love practically every phone!

Certainly does. Lack of decent Facebook app is a worry, I really don't like the Touch site (I currently have a Magic) so I use the mobile site which is outdated for SmartPhones, the iPhone app seems superb from what I've seen so I may wait for the new iPhone.

As for browsing, say if I was to log onto this forum, how is the page displayed? On the Magic I have to pan across the screen and if I zoom out I can barely see the text. On for example the iPhone it will display the whole page and it'll be readable, at least that's how I understand it.

Got mine today, and facebook in opera is fine for me. This site looks good as well no Scrolling the screen if you have it panoramic and i can read it fine.

The only down side for me is that its not a mini usb to charge anymore so i have to buy another car charger, i found it handy on my TYTN II being mini usb was that they are genetic cables used for a few things so one cable was good now i have to carry two cables, not much but im always losing them.

Up to now i like it, the wi-fi router feature will come in handy for me. GPS picks up really fast.

Just install FPSECE 0.10 (Playstation Emulator) and man is it good! I donated €5 to the developer and he sent me out a latest release with multi-touch support on the HD2 - the one available at his website doesn't work so well on the HD2.

Playing GTA 1 and it is indeed great! I recommend trying it out!
