**HTC HD2 Thread**

When the phone is in USB mode, the Storage Card is unavailable to the phone. Any apps installed on the card will not run because of this.

Yep that has always been the case. I suppose it is to stop conflicts.

I have a really strange thing where when I am typing an SMS, sometimes the focus will shift to the last message received by that person. Most annoying.

What else is annoying is that HTC doesnt make the latest ROMs available to us! Which is a shame, we have to go to XDA to get them which I dont mind, but for the moment I would prefer to use the proper ROMs until I get bored of it and go for some cooked goodness.

I really like the phone's hardware, but I'm a little frustrated by the software.

Im particularly disappointed by HTC's lack of testing. The phone has been out for several months and they are dragging their feet with fixing important features on the phone which should have been picked up as part of testing. The recent hotfix (that they have now withdrawn) to fix the slow SMS app is an example of this.

After seeing my workmate's Nexus One, I am now selling my HD2 and I have ordered a Nexus One!

Anyone know why, when I sync my phone to the myphone service, it only uploads some of the photos, rather than the entire lot?

Also, anyone else get skipping/jumping when listening to MP3s??

Apologise if this has been mentioned but the US is to get a souped up version of this handset with twice the rom 1gb, 576mb ram and a free 16gb card as opposed to the weedy 2gb that came with ours.
It seems a lot of people are up in arms about especially as they believe this will get win 7 even though ours meets the minimum requirements.

Apparently though an unreleased rom version has been flashed in China which shows the HD2 as having 576 ram. So it will be interesting to see if we get something down the line that does this.

I am following all that, but not getting my hopes up ;)

Anyone else grab this on the Virgin deal posted a few pages back? I'm finding Virgin's 3G service mega sloooooooooooow, tried loading up a web page on it and it was quicker to load on my 2G iPhone!

Bit of a shame as I'm beginning to fall in love with the handset.

Yep I have exactly the same issue. I'll give them another few weeks to fix it, or it's going back.
Also the image compression that t-mobile put on their network is making images look terrible on the HD2.

Glad it aint just me then! I notice it especially around lunch and home time. As I work in the City of London I can imagine their network getting an absolute hammering in the area at that time.

No, that is Opera's fault. It loads via it's own proxy to speed things up, but compresses images as a result.

View a page in IE and images will be their normal size and quality.

got mine today, quite like it, is there a list of apps that should be put on it?

Is there any way to make it download data (for any application) via wireless first, then by phone if wireless not available?

I've had my HD2 a week now so here are my thoughts...

Pros
  • Amazingly customisable - there's already a number of decent apps/themes/tweaks/mods coming out of XDA and a load of help for any issues. A lot of them really are 'must haves' as well.
  • Interface is generally amazing, from the main home screen to text message conversations and everything else.
  • Opera is blazingly fast when combined with some XDA tweaks and mods. It absolutely blew my friends iPhone out the water (connected to the same WiFi) - his took a good 3 seconds longer to load Amazon.com than me, and his loaded the mobile version, while mine had fully loaded the desktop version.
  • Using it as a modem couldn't be simpler. I literally plugged it into my laptop this weekend while at my parents, selected Internet Sharing on the phone (as opposed to Sync and File Transfer) and I'd already connected to MSN and the like by the time I looked back at my laptop.
  • It's very fast, and I haven't had any loading delays or anything of the like other than when it's still booting.
  • The keyboard is very accurate and easy to use once you get used to it (I came from an N95 and I'm pretty quick already).
  • Facebook integration is seamless and awesome.

Cons
  • Text message bug seems to be a problem still. Occurs randomly but semi-frequently, but hasn't for a few days now.
  • Updating the ROM (software) is extremely long winded at the moment - don't know why, possibly because the ROM update is leaked at the moment.
  • The Facebook app is ****, although a lot of the 'problems' are also shared by the iPhone one.
  • Opera doesn't support Flash and using IE is just a plain nono.

There's a few other small niggles, but I'm very picky and hopefully nothing that can't be solved by the geniuses at XDA or HTC themselves.

My home screen (quality is better on the phone's screen, the screenshot app has just reduced things a bit):

Some apps: www.rghjones.co.uk/htc - browse there directly on the phone for the easiest installation.

I'd recommend:

TorchButton_v2.2 - An app for using the flash as a torch
Touch X LEO turbo - Improves performance by increasing cache etc
Transparent Slider - Makes the home tab slider transparent
Vovichek_Jamrecords_20shcut_m2525 - Puts a grid of 5x4 quicklinks on the home screen
brianstaskbar - Taskbar icons (see above)
curtain - Removes the semi-transparent curtain behind the network operator text (see above)
duttys - Awesome task manager
inbox - Adds a "Mark as Read" menu item to the inbox
regedit.Stngr_ARM - A basic but functional registry editor for doing more tweaks

Also see this awesome thread for loads of tweaks etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638

I hope that helps people a bit! :)

cheers for those - did you get them from xda-developers?

Another question, my photos seem to have disappeared off the photo browser (they are saved on memory card), same for the music, any ideas?

Glad it's of use.

I really need to list the files properly (with descriptions) rather than it just being a folder list of contents, as it's getting quite big now. Quite a few are self-explanatory though.

Oh and for those using Swype, have you noticed a delay with it suggesting contact names when typing into the "To:" field? A fix that seems to work quite often is to backspace the last character and then this seems to bring the dropdown into action.

cheers for the swype tip, that had been annoying me!

No problem! I'm guessing the general keys don't communicate properly with the HTC Messaging system for it to initiate the search, but the backspace key does as it's probably a standard function rather than Swype's fancy coding for the normal keyboard.
