**HTC HD2 Thread**

I ended up with 2 of these due to a **** up at Virgin, must say I like it so far though, everything seems to work and they have done a great job of pushing WM to the back.

Also turns out Virgin give you an unlocked phone and I don't have to wait for a 'branded' ROM update, signal seems fine as well considering I live in a remote area, no worse than T-Mobiles was.

Drop me an email m8 (in Trust), I just wanna compare notes on the Virgin service

cheers

The signal on my HD2 is much better than my old MDA iv, also the GPS on HD2 is amazing I get 7 or 8 sats indoors !!!

I second this, am getting much better reception in places that my previous two phones on two different networks struggled, granted this may just be down to better T-mobile network coverage but I doubt it. Also the GPS is indeed excellent :D

Why wait for network-branded (albeit it slightly) ROMs?

Just HardSPL your phone and then put on whatever ROM you like!

If you're worried about warranty etc, you can always re-flash the original ROM back on (assuming you can find the stock one that came with your phone) et voilà - no more waiting for the networks to provide their own out-of-date butchered ROMs :D

Hi, thanks for your reply but I'm aware you can do this, although you provide no details. I'd much rather have a phone that had all of it's working applications upon updating the rom instead of farting about having to re-install eveything...
Chris

After you have done a Hardspl you can copy the ROM image onto a microSD card & flash direct from the phone.

Simpler/safer/Quicker :)

Fantastic, thanks for that. I'm looking into getting one of these beasts and tweaking Windows Mobile :D

Is anybody using task facade? Looks great, but would like some user feedback.

Anybody gone from a HTC Touch Diamond to the HD2 ? Would like to know if its noticeably quicker in response times as I find the Diamond to be too slow no matter what ROM I've installed. Hoping the increase in memory and CPU power would help a lot as its still running on the same OS.

I would like to know this too. I've got the diamond, and am about to upgrade, but am concerned that it may be as annoying as the diamond (responsiveness and battery life)

That looks like a useful app, will give it a try :)

Just thought I'd list what I have set up on my HD2...

Resco registry - for reg edit

Sky mobile - remote sky +

Torch button - Torch

Crayon Physics - quite a cool game

Opnmarket - Brilliant thing. Its an app store full of 10,000+ free apps and downloads straight ot the phone.

G shotgun - rubbish iphone like shotgun game thing. dont bother.

Moorhuhn - stupid shoot the flying chicken game. Again don't bother :p

GPS sport tracker - tracks your running, speed, altitude etc and can track via google maps. Not used it yet as its too cold so its the gym for me at the moment :D

Groovefish. Modified version of grooveshark on windows. Great program, streams pretty much every song you can imagine.

Myplayer - fantastic app. gives you acces to BBC iplayer, ITV on demand, Live TV (BBC 1,2,3,4 & a couple others like BBC news. Live radio. Family guy episodes, Simpsons episodes, Premier league highlights of last weeks games - just select your club and it gives you the last 15-20 games to watch. Great quality too.

Coreplayer - you need this installing to use the Myplayer app.

Loving this phone, my friend was really suprised when he saw it after just getting his Iphone. Especially when he heard how much I was paying for it too on virgin :)

It is indeed much faster, much easier to use due to the big screen and more sensitive scree, if a little too sensitive some times. The camera is better with the twin flash, the speaker is better, I can hear my phone now :D

The gps is faster to get a lock usually sub 10 seconds, the reception is better, the battery lasts 2 days instead of almost one.

The only thing i sometimes miss is using it one handed but it can be done if you have big hands like me.

Oh and that screen is amazing net browsing is way better than on the diamond.

Went from a Diamond to iPhone 3GS to the HD2.

The biggest difference for is the amount of RAM. With the Diamond and half a dozen WinMo devices before that I always had to manage the running apps or run out of memory.

The HD2 is the first device I've used which has enough power to run the OS properly and still have power in reserve.

Previously you had no choice but to run a custom rom with performance tweaks. Now the stock roms are good enough.

The only negatives compared to the Diamond, you can't use it with one hand, as beermonster said, and because the screen is right up to the edge on three sides it's difficult to hold without touching it, e.g when watching a video.

Just installed Dutty's ROM based on 1.66: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=617611

So far, very very impressed. I was dubious as to installing a custom ROM (or just a new ROM altogether) because of the "can I really be arsed? current one works fine and I don't want to reinstall everything again".

But anyway, very impressed. Installed very very very swiftly and easily and all my custom CABs and tweaks get auto-applied if you put them in an "Autoinstall" folder. Combine that with having all my texts and contacts sync'd with Microsoft MyPhone and the whole system is back exactly as it was in under 20 minutes.

As for Dutty's, the ROM is much quicker so far, and I have an amazing 164MB of Storage space left - I was literally down to the last few MBs with the standard ROM due to emails and the like.

And on an unrelated note, Swype is the best thing since sliced bread. I'm so used to it now and typing is an absolute delight. I now move my finger in such a way over the keyboard that it feels so smooth and even looks awesome.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds very positive. Ordered my PAC code and going to pick it up on Virgin mobile.

Russ - I just looked up Swype...DAYYYYUM!

It is HOT. So staying on :D Text input is...crazy quick (for a mobile)

Haha! It be pretty fly for a white app!

Seriously, you'll begin to 'know' what words 'feel' good to type... and purposefully type them more :D. For example, try typing "goodnight". Feels good huh?

Also, it really excels at longer words. Try typing "pharmaceutical". You don't even need to be particularly accurate with it.

So win :D.

Oh and if you don't have it yet, get SIPChange - it's on my mirror at www.rghjones.co.uk/htc. It sets the default keyboard on startup.
