**HTC HD2 Thread**

I still havent found the balls to just buy this. I know it does a lot of things the iPhone does but better, but I reckon there just a few things that I;d miss from the iPhone (nothing of Apple though!!).

You'll need to flash HSPL first, which will unlock the phone and let you install any ROM. I havent yet done this, still trying to work out exactly what I need to backup and what programs/data to save. Its all on XDA forums.

Has anyone on here done this yet? What happens to all the programs on the SD card? Do they need to be re-installed and set up again? I have my contacts in Outlook so that should take care of them, just wondering what else I'd need to save/backup before flashing HSPL/1.66.

They'll be installed.

Most cracked ROMs will come with an 'Autoinstall' folder - just create a folder named Autoinstall on your SD card and it'll install all the CABs in their automatically. It's really not as much hassle as you think. Plus MS MyPhone will also restore all your contacts and text messages (and more if you want it to).

Just bought one of these from Virgin, should be with me on Saturday :D

Need to sell my Touch Diamond 2 now (lovely phone but my eyesight is getting crap :()

Anyone on here with an HD2 on T-Mobile, could they post the settings what they use for MMS. Someone tried sending me a pic yesterday and it tried to download it and in the notifications said cannot download from T-Mobile. I've had T-Mobile text me the settings, still doesn't work, tried sending a pic to myself and other people, still nothing. Can't think why MMS won't work, any ideas guys?

I have been looking for a new phone for a while now, and after looking at the 3gs prices they are ridiculous!

Basically I still have a few months of my original iphone 3g contract left, but I lost the phone (idiot I know) and was not covered by insurance.

After looking in town today this phone was one of the only others that caught my eye, however I am worried I will miss all of the apps I used with my iphone such as remote and the vnc app. Is there anything I will really miss if I get this phone instead?

Has anyone seen any good deals for it? Basically I do not want anything longer than 18 months, need a data package, and do not really send many texts or make many calls. I also want insurance as I am prone to breaking things.

Also I am a bit strapped for cash so don't want to pay a lot for the phone in the first place.

I have been using an ancient nokia that barely has a colour screen and don't think I can bare it much longer!

18 months, £40 a month, 1200 mins unlimited texts and internet with 02, phone was also free

Borich.

Looks good. Does that include data?

The minutes and texts are overkill for me though. Looking on the o2 site I can't see any with a free phone for less than 45/month. On a deal site there looks to be some good orange deals but when going on their website I can't even find the phone.

My HD2 just turned up, it makes my TD2 look tiny :D

//edit//

****** it doesn't do BT voice dialling out of the box, what a PITA. If I can't get it working it's going back to Virgin

You may want to explore if theres an app that does that in the xda-dev site.

Just a heads up that opera 10 beta 3 is out which does support limited flash. You need to enable plugins in settings tho. Doesn't work with everything tho but it's a start.

Remember to copy your book marks away if you have beta 2 as it'll blitz them. And you can have the default 9.7 still there as the beta is installed as a separate app.

I picked up this phone yesterday from the Virgin Media store in Oxford Street.
£79.99 + £25x16 (2 months free) + 3 months insurance. It's totally unbranded so that's a plus.

I've got 28 days to decide whether I like the phone or not. I like the screen and I like that I can multitask on it, but I must say that I'm missing the lack of apps on it. I'm pretty surprised that I'm even saying that since I never even use the apps on my iPhone. I don't seem to be having any of the speed issues or SMS issues that you other guys are having so, fingers crossed, I'll be fine.

I've already flashed my phone to Dutty's ROM which was the easiest way for me to get the Swype keyboard. It has also made some of the WinMo screens a bit more bearable. I can't say I've noticed massive changes because I didn't really mess around with the original ROM.

I've got a few queries though:
1. Do I have to manually download each MMS when it gets sent to me? I sent myself one from my old phone and it downloaded the header but I had to click into it and download the contents.

2. Is there a way to stream video (.mp4 in my case) from the browser? I have an open directory of little clips that I could just click on and it would stream on my iPhone. Is there anything similar to this on the HD2?

I've used Cyberon Voice Dialer in the past but from what I've read on XDA HTC have changed the BT stack & currently it doesn't work with all BT headsets :(

What sort of bundle does that give you Clown?

I have just picked one up today on an 18 month contract paying 35 a month.

First impressions are very nice, just need to get used to the OS.

Originally I was looking for a new iphone but am glad I chose this instead.

I think I get 600 minutes, unlimited (3000) texts, unlimited web (500mb?).
I wasn't really paying attention, I just wanted the phone :)

This really needs to be stuck in the first post or something. There are thousands of programs out there for WinMo, the marketplace is rubbish, just google the type of program you want and stick "WM" after it. There are also a few big websites that have thousands of (mostly free) programs on. :)

I got the same package today but the best they could do was £35 a month with free phone.

Sounds like you got a way better deal!
