**HTC HD2 Thread**

I've had my HD2 about a month now- loving it so far although it's not been completely without issues - needs a bit of work to run just right :)
There's plenty of software available as others have said. Win Marketplace is just a starting point but has a small range and doesn't let you choose where to install - quite annoying. It's worth installing OpnMarket, which has plenty of free apps. Or there are many websites.

Some of my favourite stuff is:

Bing - I'm using the US version since it has voice activated search
Aloqa - quite useful local information
Navicomputer - offline maps tool - I figure it will be useful when abroad to avoid data charges.

Shazam - very impressive music recognition
Nanogroove - also tried groovefish but I prefer this one
Sky mobile - program guide, remote record etc
My Player - BBC iplayer, Sky News etc
Core Player- needed for MyPlayer

IMDb mobile
Google translator - although haven't yet worked out how to get it to display Japanese characters correctly.

Google mobile

also enjoying the preinstalled Teeter & solitaire games. I really like the animated weather too - if only we had more extreme weather around here- mostly just shows clouds :D

And I've applied a few tweaks as suggested here and on XDA forums:

brianstaskbar - very nice connection status and battery indicator
curtain - removes curtain behind network operator name
Transparent Slider - makes home screen tabs transparent
KeypadLEDcontrol- makes the buttons light up whenever the screen is on. I'd love to meet the joker who designed them not to light up until after they've been pressed!
Vovichek20shcut - change quicklinks grid to 5x4
Mark all as read - for email
BSB tweaks - needed this to turn off error reporting, which was causing a few issues
CSMI- to change program/folder icons in the start menu- was getting sick of the boring yellow folder icon
Treesize mobile

Still running the 1.43 O2 ROM since it's fairly quick with no significant issues. May upgrade to HTC 1.66 at some point.

You should upgrade to 1.66 or a custom ROM using that, or above. 1.43 uses a REALLY buggy version of Manila, but at least you haven't had problems (yet) :D

Oh and I prefer Midomi to Shazaam, purely for the humming/singing option (not that i'd ever use that in public). :D

Got my phone the other day and like it very much. Got it from Virgin on 24 month contract @ £30 pm. 800 mins, unlimited text and web. 2 months free and free months free insurance. Completely unbranded and unlock so currently using with my existing T-Mobile sim.

Help!

I've done a very daft thing and wiped the SD card that came with it. I want to try CoPilot but because I don't have the information on the included SD card any more it won't work. Anyone know where I can get this from?

For the people who have got the HD2 from Virgin with "unlimited internet", it says this on the website :-

Unlimited web access for 30p a day You only pay on the days that you access the Internet from your phone

You'd better check that your "unlimited internet" tariff is free ....

It is free, you get a data limit of 1GB under their fair usage policy. The 30p a day web access is a different tariff.

Where does it say free ? I can only see the text I quoted above

would be really really happy to be proved wrong :D

The truely unlimited access is only on the £30 tariff. The £22, £15 and £10 tariffs are indeed 30p per day.

Edit: http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/genericContent.do?contentId=our.service.footer.sm068#terms9

This clearly shows 2 different type of internet usage.

You are wrong.....

The pay monthly contracts that come with Unlimited Internet are just that with the 1GB FUP.

If you are on a PAYG then you have the Unlimited Internet - 30p per day.

No where does it state a difference between the £30 per month and other monthly contracts.

It doesn't on their website. But it does on the letter they sent me last week :p

I agree the website is a bit crap :/ I ordered mine over the phone.

Well, likewise it doesn't say on my letter about any internet usage so I called and they confirmed that my £25 per month contract comes with the 1GB FUP Unlimited mobile internet NOT the 30p per day Unlimited Internet.

I could do with knowing that too. Currently using the standard one.

Did yours come with a 2gb card with co-pilot on it? If so how big is co-pilot on it? Mine did but I deleted it by accident and want it back.

Damn, I love this phone, have updated the ROM, got all the tweaks, but what a shame the camera is so rubbish!!! Any kind of movement when indoors and it just cannot do it! what a pain in the butt!!

Did a bit of looking around and this link seems to suggest 16GB Micro SDHC will be fine:

Linkage

Not sure how big the CP folder is.

By the way if I put a custom ROM on this, will I not be able to use CoPilot? Isn't it cooked into the ROM somehow? I find the XDA Dev forums quite bewildering and really wish I could find a newbies guide post of where to start, what you might lose, what you need to replace, etc, etc.

Once I get my phone exchanged next week I can start to customise it properly :)

The dutty rom doesn't have co pilot on. Im downloading the co pilot version from the official site now as I have a license, I got a feeling it's not going to work though, may have to revert to an official rom to get the program back

Hmm interesting. Now seeing as it is only a trial version, can the standard WM version be downloaded if one is planning to buy it anyway? What is the reason for "cooking" it into the official rom?
