** HTC VIVE NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE AT OcUK WITH FREE DELIVERY!! **

surprising that they bother selling the content on steam if they are still going to give it away.

it was never declared a preorder benefit so maybe its included.

so glad they charged me 57 delivery for it to be shipped 20 days after launch, and on a thursday late, so it wont be here til Monday. 57£ disgusting.

For other HMD's, like the Rift with Hydra or Pre owners ?

This. What make the rift close ?

Cheaper, better optics, lighter to wear/more comfy, better game support without having to use hacks eg project cars and rift actually has proper games to play rather than just extended tech demos. Think thats everything.
A competitor is offering the pre order games free afaik.

Cheaper = less stuff. Lighter, my kneck is like Arnold's so that won't matter. Games will come. Better optics..fair enough.

Aww man this or a rift? decisions decisions.

The Rift, once the controllers come out, will be the better overall package in my opinion.

- The headset is lighter and more comfortable.
- The screen (while having technically the same resolution) has better pixel fill
- The integrated headphones are a godsend
- Never tried the Touch controllers personally but developers comment on them being functionally identical.

I'd say the Rift looses out in 3 respects - with some caveats though.

1) The Vive camera while useful is only used about 0.1% of the time. Advanced in the software might make this better so it's nice that the hardware includes it, but it's not missed while playing with Rift partly due to the ease of taking the headset off and on.

2) Cable length of the Rift is shorter. You really need to think about computer placement to make the most of the Rift cable for room scale. Only an issue once you start playing with the Touch controllers but an issue none the less.

3) Lighthouse tracking solution is the better solution in my opinion. By only requiring power, placement is a doddle for roomscale. Additionally the lack of connection to the computer means that theoretically it easily allows a completely wirefree VR experience with a suitable laptop on your back - which would be dope as hell.

However, when it comes to accuracy of the tracking solutions I've yet to find either to be better/worse than one another. Both are equally as capable.

The Rift's ability to do proper roomscale when Touch launches still concerns me for a variety of reasons.

1) As you say, the HMD cable is pretty short so they will have to use extenders

2) How will the second tracking camera be set up? All official Touch demos so far have had both cameras pointing at the player head on. For true room tracking they need to be opposite to avoid occlusion on the controllers, so that will mean having to use a really long USB lead with them.

I can see Oculus only officially supporting a standing/seating experience with Touch where the player only has 180 Deg movement.

Like the Vive, Oculus (Palmer himself actually) have said that camera position is entirely at your discretion.

The compromise comes whether you want room scale 360 tracking, or 180 degree tracking with higher occlusion compensation.

In all fairness a few of the Vive games I've got tend to have a 180 degree bias and would benefit from the "classic" Touch setup - but that's not to say that 360 degree tracking isn't useful for some games.

Some of the games that support 360 tracking also have mechanisms for you to rotate your orientation manually as well (like the Gallery's "blink") so even they would be playable on the Oculus Rift with Touch controllers in the classic setup.

It's all tradeoffs for various pros and cons. Oculus are focusing on the "best" way of doing everything and because of this I think they might be the first to offer the tracking camera separately, even if separate Vive lighthouse trackers is a no-brainer if you ask me (they've be much cheaper as well I'd imagine)

ah I see its a different game pack:

the blu
job simulator
space pirate trainer

somehow they removed it from their page . but see at the bottom 'Includes the Vive headset, two wireless controllers, two base stations, link box, earbuds, Vive accessories, safety guide and warranty card.
Limited Offer Free Content Bundle: Job Simulator, Fantastic Contraption and Tilt Brush by Google. '

so i guess now offer is the same as from HTC vive main site .

It was definitely there last night as was also quoted on Reddit and hotdeals now says:

be quick before that is removed too :p

Ordered.

Just found out with Amazon pay they don't take the money straight away but upon shipping. I don't mind either way.

Well excited now, been waiting years for decent VR to make an appearance :)

Argh! For a second there I thought I'd double bought the included game pack as I've just bought space pirate trainer and the blu. I get tilt brush, job simulator and fantastic contraption.

I really wish the supply for the HTC Vive would speed up i ordered 3 days ago and i'm already wanting it right this second :D

Got a few games in my library waiting for the bad boy. I'm having a LAN party with some friends and family so everyone can try it out. Thankfully i'm setting it up in my brothers living room as his play space is pretty big.

Lets just hope OCUK get in mid June instead of late i can't wait! :D

Any plans to sell spares for the Vive Gibbo?

I already feel like I need a new set of foam face plates and would be nice to be able to pick up extra base stations and controllers without having to import from HTC.
