HTPC build

Do you need a sli/xfire mobo?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus P8Z77-M Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
Total : £99.89 (includes shipping : £8.25).

Nope. Won't be needing to run one more than the 1 gpu. I'll look up the specs of the P8Z77-M against the M Pro, if that's the only major difference you've just saved me £10 :)

Origenae is the case of the past, present and future. timeless design. Buy it

Wow  Too bad it completely blows my budget out of the water! Awesome looking cases though.

The rest is ordered:

Asus P8Z77 - M
Corsair Builder 500w modular
Silverstone GD06
Arctic Silver 3 thermal paste

If anyone is interested I'll keep.this thread updated with the build progress.

Cheers

A quick question if I may. For the time being I won't be using a dedicated GPU. I've been led to believe the graphics integrated with the i7 are more than capable of handling HD video content. Is this the case?

Also, where the onboard graphics are concerned, do I simply disable these in the bios from the start? Or should I disable the graphics on the processor instead and use the onboard ones?

Or (and this is completely likely) am I getting things completely wrong and I don't have to touch a thing :)

Thanks

David

Well, it's done and I must say I'm quite happy with the results.

Here are some pics and a brief outline of how it was all put together:

Some goodies came :)

I put some memory into a motherboard:

and took the case out of it's box:

Really pleased with the case choice, there's loads of room for tucking your cables out of the way etc:

I assembled the Scythe:

and installed it onto the Asus:

Just enough room for a graphics card later on:

Installed the PSU, I had to take the hot-swap drive cage out of the case to accommodate the modular cables of this PSU:

Switched her on and:

Really happy with the GD06. I'm currently trying to see if a card reader will fit in the front of the case where the hot-swap facility used to be. I'll also be painting the key lock black so it matches the rest of the case.

Thanks to everyone who commented and gave me parts advice etc, grateful for your input.

I'm off to play with XBMC some more :)

Thanks
David

Looks very nice mate.
Now you can sit back, put your feet up and enjoy.:D

Not just yet I'm not! I have the memory to configure (it's still running @1333 instead of 1666) and XBMC to mess around with. Then there's the case fans to replace (they're not loud but I can get the noise down more I'm sure).

Very nice :) The lock on the front of the case spoils it for me though!

I feel exactly the same, hence why I'm painting it black. It really ruins the smooth looks of the front of the case. I may even try and remove it altogether and but something in there to block it up. A rubber bung or something, not sure yet.
