HTT frequency on this BIOS;

This is my first post on these forums so please excuse my noobishness. :D

I badly want to overclock my rig, and started partially when i found that in my BIOS (Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG updated a few weeks ago) i cannot change the HTT frequency. This of course means i cannot overclock my system. :(

I was wondering if there is a way, to change HTT inside windows, or if i can download a different type of BIOS for my board, an Abit KN9 nForce 4 Ultra (not SLI).

Any help at all would be of great assistance to me. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!

Not according to the manual:

You can change both cpu external clock and ht frequency.

You might have to press CTRL + F1 to get certain advanced features

From memory it's under advanced bios, third item down from front list.

It's then the top item.

But the first item alters your fsb and hence your cpu speed. You find that after you reach high enough you need to drop your HT from auto (5) to 4 or even 3.

Hence my puzzlement at your statement it is stopping you from overclocking

My problem is i can't find the HTT multiplier, i know about dropping it down, but if i can't actually change the HTT speed i can't overclock. Just checking what you said about where it is. :D

What about HT(FSB) speed though?

I need to increase that (dropping down the multiplier to 4 or even 3)in order to overclock [test the motherboard] do i not?

Your BIOS calls it the external clock value but it really means front side bus or HTT speed, this is what you increase to up the CPU speed. The FSB/HTT speed is also multiplied by 5 at default to give you HT link speed (see above), mine was running at x3 in the above shot.

The HT link speed (newer versions of CPUZ might call it something else now) needs to be at 1,000MHz or below so once you start overclocking, the HTT multiplier needs to be reduced to x4 and then x3 once you're over 250MHz.

**Smacks head**.

My stupidity is limitless, i completely forgot that the CPU is multiplied by the HT, and thus OF COURSE the 200MHz i see in the softmenu must be the HT and not just the CPU.

Thank you greatly for making my realize my idiotic stupidness.

Now i can get to work... Thank you again!
