*** Huawei Mate 40 Pro ***

Huawei should sell the hardware wholesale to a total 3rd Party company based outside China or to Google themselves
Develop a google play version with the 3rd party liasing with google and huawei on how to develop it
???
Profit.

Is it likely that if Trump loses the election the situation with Huawei and the US will change? Competition is generally a good thing, and I do think the situation with Huawei is probably a bad thing as far as consumers are concerned. I'd definitely be interested in a Huawei phone at the moment, but not without Google.

Hasn't the damage been already done? Would Huawei want to play with Google again? Will consumers risk it?

I'd imagine Huawei would use Android until their own OS is properly ready. They must be losing a fortune on lost sales.

Google wouldn't even be allowed to buy their phones under the ban.

Don't forget the other issue is with TSMC as well, apparently they have managed to renew their licence but we have no idea what the full details on that is. There was a rumour of Huawei not allowed to use the latest process but TSMC already dismissed that, so the Mate 40 should have no problem with Kirin 9000 shortages for now. Still, the US shouldn't in the first place prevent TSMC and Samsung from selling to China.

Harmony OS is due next year, and the Mate 40 will be able to "upgrade" to it when it's ready, so Huawei is already prepared to leave Android. I doubt even if they're allowed to, Google will develop apps for Harmony OS's ecosystem, unless it proves itself with a large userbase.

There's loads of methods, think I outlined them in the P40 thread.

Incidentally Skaif's link seems to be quite promising and he was right enough, an XDA member has created an app which helps you out with all the faffing about that we faced a few months back.

Not sure where you got that price from, hell of a lot cheaper than I just shelled out for the import. That's more than likely for the Pro model and not Pro plus.

Not a huge risk really, I already know the OS' downfalls having owned a P40 Pro plus.

Fair play, good on you for taking a punt. Would be interested to hear your thoughts. I was considering an import as I would only go for the plus model too. Out of interest where did you get it from?

Was definitely a 'press that confirm' button before you have more time to think about it. Likited availability and only available only through reservation in China, JD.com, vmall etc so it was also going to be expensive once importers added their cut and the usual early adapters tax.

Bar the Fold 2, the most expensive phone I've purchased to date. Definitely paid over the odds. I found a few familiar places offering it up, Lioaw.com and Vopmart.com. went for Vopmart as they still use DHL to the U.K and will entertain any labelling requests etc.

Yeah I was considering liaow as heard good things. Might just bide my time anyway!

Post a review when you get your hands on it!

Liaow are the mor expensive at the moment and you're likely to get stung by customs too, so waiting for till after Christmas might be wise with price drops on the import and a maybe word on a U.K release by then.

Will give impressions when it arrives, probably 10 days or so.
