Huel: The Future of Food ..

Anyone ever used this on a bulk?

Tempted to use it to add some calories in a convenient way.

I've bulked on Huel. It's pretty straight forward:

1 scoop = 38g = 157 calories
2 scoops = 76g = 314 calories
3 scoops = 114g = 471 calories
4 scoops = 152g = 628 calories

Divide grams by 3 for rough amount of protein. I tend to go with 4 scoops as 50g of protein is a nice round no. and it is, imo, far better than a protein shake post workout.

Has anyone tried it warm? In this weather when it's constantly -something C I don't think I could deal with a cold shake. Hence why hot whole food is amazing! :D

I haven't and can't imagine it's nice. Huel tends to be better colder - warm sounds nasty!

Makes sense. I don't use it just to bulk up on top of meals though - Huel's over half the food I consume. And better for you by a way than oats, protein powder and peanut butter etc.

Is it that clear cut? I'd class bulking on peanut butter and porridge as dirty bulking. It's easy to get the calories, but if given the choice i'd rather they had some goodness.

I also find Huel fills me up more than normal food calorie for calorie. A nice bonus when trying to shift weight. A 600 calorie meal of normal food and i'm licking the plate and still hungry. The same amount of Huel and i'm good to go until the next meal. It's also particularly great post workout - I used to neck a protein shake immediately after finishing at the gym and it doesn't compare.

Naw - it's all about blending and leaving it to thicken up. A good four hours in the fridge and it takes on a whole new property!

Sorry if it's been asked before, but is it filling?

Super filling. In my experience, at least, it's more filling calorie for calorie than regular food.

And as always, blend and leave in the fridge for 4 or so hours. Thickens right up and gets nice and cold. Failing that, blend with ice. I know some ppl here are fine with shaking Huel, but I can't stomache it warm and lumpy (and i'm a massive Huel fan!)

But I'm only eating 400 or so calories in one sitting, so not a lot. I guess if you ate it exclusively several times a day it would keep you fuller longer. However I eat around 3000 cals a day so perhaps why.

That maybe it. I maintain on 2500 calories and have around 620 per shake.

Do you have a mini blender? :)

If I fill the nutribullet to the top with Huel and water it fills a protein shaker to the top also - super convinient.

Definitely need to blend it mate. And preferably with ice and/or frozen fruit.

I really enjoy the taste btw. Standard vanilla with a banana and ice is my fave. Frozen strawberries/raspberries/blueberries is all good too. My mate adds a shot of coffee and chocolate protein powder for breakfast and loves it.

Could you blend it in the morning then have it for lunch? Or would it separate out a bit?

That'll be fine. Huel actually thickens up the longer you leave it, which I personally like as it feels more substantial/filling. I use 4 scoops per shake, so it's already pretty thick, but by lunchtime it's thick like Frijj milkshakes, if you ever tried those. Being able to prepare multiple meals in one hit is one of the nice things with this - I make three each morning and it takes around 5 minutes.

I've never strayed from vanilla so can't speak for the other flavours, but never found it too sweet. You could always try mixing in some unflavoured to tone things down.

Unrelated - Huel has been my main food source for almost two years now. I've used it to cut and to bulk and gains in the gym have been consistent. The basic rule is - Huel for 2/3 of intake and whatever the hell I like for the remaining 1/3 - although I still try to be good during the week. If anything normal food is more enjoyable now as I get to eat everything nice in larger quantities and without worrying. My only concern is them going out of business - I would be totally screwed.

Had the vanilla for breakfast this morning and it was fine, wouldn't call it nice but it was drinkable although very thick. I used to have mixable oats, with protein powder and a bit of milk for breakfast, just tasted like that to be honest.

Blend it with ice if you're not already. Makes a big difference.

When I was working out, having a mix of amino's and protein sources was important. If you live on Huel you're not getting any mix?

In terms of protein/aminos you'll likely be getting more with Huel than you were from your mix. Not to mention all the other stuff you're probably not getting. Have a look:

I'm getting roughly 50g of protein per shake, train 6 days a week, and for the last two years the majority of my food has been Huel. Gains have never been better :)

I had my first Huel meal yesterday using the recommended amounts (3 scoops, 570ml water). Despite using the vanilla version I couldn't actually finish the whole thing because I found it so utterly disgusting. I'm gonna try it with a banana blended in today and see if that makes it more palatable.

I sound like a broken record - but ice is a must! I have 12 scoops a day and genuinely enjoy it.

Fair enough - perhaps it's not for you. My gf doesn't get on the malty/chalky taste at all. I do prefer it blended with ice cubes than cooled in the fridge tho - especially with a banana or other fruit thrown in
