Huel: The Future of Food ..

Anyone seen this, they don't seem to rate Huel, about 6 minutes in.

I went from 16.5stones to 12 partly due to Huel Black as I mentioned a while back.

I just had a Black shake first thing in the morning and went to work. For lunch I’d munch on peanuts or a grenade protein bar. My blood pressure was high - 150/90 so change was needed.

At the same time I shed all my usual processed foods. Pizzas (cry), BJ (Ben/jerrys), crisps etc went out the window. The weight just fell off as I was burning some 600-800cals a day. I did no calorie counting or any of that lark, I just changed the way I ate.

Huel can work imo. I’ve stopped having shakes in the morning and moved over to overnight oats with one scoop of black - so I can make a pouch last longer.

Bit of a bump as I took a delivery yesterday. I ordered Choco Black and a pouch of Pasta Bol, which I've never tried before. Upon getting the delivery the huel box was larger than normal.

Inside was a Fiery Chicken pot noodle thing and a Katsu Curry! This is their new Savoury range. As reported by everyone online, the pots absolutely stink! I placed the two by the window asap as I suspect their paper pots allow for a lot of the smells to pass through. The remaining Katsu pot no longer smells after 12hrs.

I've just tried the F.Chicken and damn - it is really delicious! VERY hot mind, and I can handle some hot foods. It was perfectly edible in just 8mins. It is spicy in the sense that it really tickles your tongue but doesn't make your nose run like say Nong Shin ramen noodles would.

At £24.40 for a box of 8 I'm not sure if I'd want to opt for these really but if they do hit my local Sainsburys then I'd certainly be up for a random pot purchase.

Edit: Late update and opinion on these pots.

I can't really recommend them at the moment due to the pot design. Huel partly addressed the smell issue I believe by putting a thin plastic film layer around the inner pot.

The first pot, Fiery Chicken was prepared and made just fine. The second pot, Katsu Curry didn't go well. You are meant to open the lid halfway and pour in boiling water, however upon doing so the lid (also bonded to the adhesive layer in the pot) peeled back the layer inside partially and bits of plastic film fell into the powder. I ended up emptying the entire pot into a bowl and fishing out the plastic before adding boiling water and prepping it. The overall result was poor. The sauce was nice but the protein pieces weren't cooked well.

I emailed Huel to ask if this was the final design of the pots as you need to use more adhesive on that plastic layer to stop it peeling off the cup. They said it wasn't the final design and that they're addressing this. They send me 2x cups of Katsu also.

I tried the first pot earlier in the week and the same thing happened as I removed the lid very slowly, using a finger I pushed back the plastic layer in the pot as it had begun to peel away. This helped and I could make the pot nicely. The second pot I had just yesterday and the exact same thing happened (these are all different batches) so again I did the same and things went ok.

Overall the pots need more work as 3 out of my 4 pots were dodgy.

Anyone tried the Essential powder. Thinking I might get some for those mornings when I'm going out on the mountain bike and could do with the carbs plus add some honey or sugar. Got to be better than purely adding sugar to the Black powder I normally use.

Might be good if you want more carbs. There's less than half the protein of black though.

Seems essentials has 30% less protein per 100g than the standard (20g vs 30g)

But 46% more carbs per 100g than the standard (57g vs 39g)

I suppose I'm the oppposite. I don't enjoy cooking unless you count using an air fryer being an achievement. That being said, most of my food comes from Iceland's slimming, low fat high protein range along with what Myprotein have on offer. Looking for alternatives if anybody can suggest.

I grabbed the £60 'taster pack' that they've been advertising on Faceache..

The cans arent anything great.
The bars arent bad.
The RTD's, I've had the Berry, Chocolate and Banana ones before, will see what the rest are like next week as the office fridge now looks like I am sponsored by Huel...
The cup noodle things are nice, I had the Katsu one and Fiery Chicken one, both nice, think I prefer the Katsu one.
Oddly, given its a taster pack, it had none of the Hot and Savory pouch stuff in it, so no feedback on those..

Theres now 3 of us in the office that are looking to Huel while we are at work, one of the guys is old and into making sure what he puts into his body is 'correct', the other 2 of us are just fat so want to be a bit more sensible with what we are eating during the day..
Sure between the 3 of us we can sort some sort of bundle out, maybe get the 4th of us into it as well so we're not tempted by what someone else is eating that might not be so good for us...

Anyone else looking for an alternative now after the price increases.
I'd certaily be interested to know how people get on with alternatives. I'm kind of into the habit and I know what I'm getting with Huel, so I've not messed. But each order is about £85 (lasts maybe 2.5 months) so it's quite a dent in the budget.

I may try the Plenny pots myself for a change but I think I'll wait for my 5000 meal drinks bottle before I switch :)

I've received a few referrals and subsequently got half finished bags and bottles over the years. I found the the black stuff a bit rich and other products too expensive. Wanted bread with the H & S meals so not so good for weight. I stick to the standard bags for work lunch as it's low fuss and affordable.

Didn't switch from Huel but i've been using the Plenny shakes and pots for a little while and I think they're good, decent enough flavours, filling and no complaints from me.
Is the service as bad as some of the reviews make out. Best to keep the orders under about £135 as well to avoid import costs.

Don't know, done a few orders (all sub £135 so far), they've arrived as expected with no complications, there were various 'new customer' free bottles and pots in the first couple of deliveries, not had any cause to need customer service or anything yet.

I'm considering adding a few things on 4 weeks subscription as they knock 20% off.

Yeah I'd always do a subscription then cancel it just to get the saving. Can you easily cancel the subscription?

Been on Huel for at least nine years. I love the Black Edition flavours apart from coffee. I tried all the savoury bags but I don’t like them. Tried again recently and they are not for me :D
