HUKD is trash now

HUKD seems to be full of so much tosh these days, it really is [as someone put it already] a lottery finding an actual decent Deal. And the comments section is typically the same rubbish - "this was posted two months ago for £10 less" etc etc.

Readign this post though, it seems that dLockers either works for HUKD, or just really really loves it :D

Just tired of this British mentality of moaning for the sake of moaning, with no view of how to make better or improve. It is such a non quantifiable point of view most have provided as well - when is "too few deals" indeed too few (yet they all still browse it), and when "just enough" adequate but not too much that you need to force yourself to take a break? Feels like reading Goldilocks and the three bears here.

It is especially "funny" when:
* It is content aggregators that are user driven! I mean, if the deals aren't there, they aren't there
* People moaning deals get posted that even the "big" companies can't fulfill, e.g. moaner above talking about 1 in stock in Halfords (and continuing the British tradition of making a random, unsupported point [Halfrauds] much like the chap moaning yesterday about the 'Clowncil', yet there was a post about someone linking to a Mam and Pop store in the bloody highlands of Scotland that triggered the debate - as if they could cope with being posted on #2500 website in the ******* universe
* People are upset they can't jump on top of mis-price deals, yet we are on a retailers forum who mis-price deals would obviously hurt them (hurrr durr someone made a mistake why can't I take advantage, how dare others take advantage, this website sucks!).

Textbook OCUK old boys though - whos evidence is limited to their own experience or their 3 mates who knew a mate.

It fits its place in the internet, in that it is a decent endless scroll if you are super bored, and every now and then something that piques your interest shows up. For the other 50% of the times, it is useful to lookup things you specifically want to buy to see what the price was and to read any discussion that surrounded it.

Also, I am CFO of HUKD. :p

I my complaint with the place is actually good deals being voted cold because people put personal opinions into their comments.

It seems to happen a lot with lease deals where people just seem to hate any lease deal because you don't own anything at the end. You could stick a Ferrari on there for £300 a month and people would moan you're paying £3600 a year for nothing!

The buy £50 gift card, get £6 credit offer was good. Stacks with the spend £25 get £5 off too.

Its these once every 6 months offers that make it worth a quick daily scan still.

TBF retailers have become much smarter. Back in the early days, code stacks weren't uncommon, and retailers would regularly dispatch goods before realising they'd made a mistake. Now, most sites don't allow code stacks and most price mistakes are picked up quickly. So instead of a £1k TV for £450, you wind up with hot deals like "240 Tetley Tea Bags for £2.40".

I used to post quite a lot of deals. Recently got a bit sick of the way moderators operate on the site though. Had quite a few deals deleted for nonsense reasons, or edited with incorrect info because the mod reading the post thinks they know more than they do. Almost got myself banned during my last argument with the people running the site. So now I don't post much.

I have given up posting because of the moderation. They come up with the most BS excuses.

Just be selfish and just look for the deals and don't bother posting deals you find. This is the way!
I never post deals, but I do occasionally comment when someone asks a question.

But it gets old when all the deals consistently have the same questions.

In *every single monitor deal* somebody will post, "Can I connect this to my PS5?" Every. Single. Time.

I mean how hard is it to find this basic information?

That's the problem. People are not afraid to vote hot or cold but by and large many people haven't got a clue about the products or the prices.

I guess maybe I expect too much from the userbase.

It definitely became very spammy over the last few years. There are also simply less good deals and price glitch stuff happening now. The last few black fridays have been poor too.

Yeah its garbage these days. 90% of the deals are utterly awful regardless of whether you want the item or not. Hes 2% off a £30 item. Wow, thanks, I was waiting months to save 60p.

Any actually good deals are usually dead within minutes because HUKD has so many members that its like a plague of locust decending on anything decent.

The comments sections are a bit of a mess as the OP said as well. Theres the "this is an Apple product so cold", the "Just because 3p off a car doesn't interest you doesn't mean its not a deal" and the occasional funny post.

The problem seems to be very similar to Reddit, some people have too much influence and are allowed to flaunt the rules of self-promotion. I posted one deal and it got rejected on the terms of "self-promotion" didn't take long to realise they were rejecting deals from all sites but 1.

i think i got to HDUK too late. i heard good things for years but only downloaded the app about 1.5 years ago. i search some times almost daily, just a quick 1 minute scan to see any offerings, and other than 2 pairs of trainers, and 2 paris of prescrip glasses, i've seen nothing of a deal, and even the trainers weren't really that much of a deal in the end.

decided to uninstall it today after seeing this thread. i don't see what the fuss is about and i guess it's just past it's prime now.

You gotta be in it to win it!

There have been numerous people complaining about the mods on there. People who have posted deals only to have them rejected and the same deal posted by one of their "superusers" a few hours later is green lighted.

Who cares about the politics if you get the deal?

What a strange attitude. People will stop bothering to post deals if they feel like they are being shut down and ignored. That will lead to a worse experience for everyone. If 4/10 deals I posted were shut down for no good reason I would very quickly stop bothering to post any of them. The people who post them don't get a kickback, they are doing it to help people.
