Hull - Weather - flooding.

Gilly, has the whole flooding thing affected you at all? I remember seeing yorkshire on the tv during the report...and you came to my mind.

Heavy rain, unfortunate location and **** drainage. Ever since we moved to our current house in Sheffield the cellar floods at the drop of a hat since the drains can't cope round here, luckily we've never had more serious problems.
Our cellar has also unfortunately taken a hit :(

Buckets came the rescue, so it's not bad in comparison to others! Looking into the problem over the next few weeks.

drains can't cope round here,

I think its time the Sheffield council pulled out the cheque book and started investing some dollar to be honest. I’m lucky enough to be in an area that isn't flooded, but like everywhere else the drains never work. They spill out onto the streets destroy the tarmac and we are left with some of the worst roads in the country. Very easy to aquaplane your car when it’s flooding out over the streets as well
This is not a new problem (I can only speak for the last two years) it happens every time there is heavy rain. Council just to lazy/useless to sort it. Looks like it will cost them more in the long run.

I went to hull uni, used to live close to the bridge in one of those photos.

Quite scary how bad it has become, guess I am lucky to be living far away now...

Funny enough the west side of the morth seems to have got away with it this time.

Only hope there are no more deaths and i really hope the rummor of looters is just a rumor or that is taking the mick a bit much.

I was wondering how Hull city centre was too, didn't have direct contact with anyone who was there.

apparently river hull was very close to going if it hadn't already.

I was out and about yesterday, some places still no go, seen many people filling skips full of soggy chairs and tables :(

BBC said there have been 600 casualties of the flooding!!!??

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6247870.stm

General Secretary Matt Wrack said the fire service had received more than 7,300 calls to flood-related incidents on Monday and Tuesday and warned it was being stretched to the "point of collapse".

He accused the government of underestimating the scale of the flood, which has also claimed more than 600 casualties.

I assume they're saying casualties in repsect to people being injured and not dead?

Has anyone in Leeds been affected at all? It seems bizarre that all this is going on a few miles down the motorway, seems completely normal here.

I can confirm looting has happened in Barnsley. Got a friend at BMDC.

I work in Leeds - Quarry House, apart from monday when we got a few big puddles, nothing.

No floods, no canal overflowing, no drains leaking yet, so far so good, then again leeds is ontop of hills i think, feels like it when i am walking around so maybe they are lucky.

I think Hedon is getting a bit wet though, believe a drain is blocked and the tide is heading up that way... not looking good for them

My mate bob from Hedon has just had a call to tell him the humber is about to burst and to get home, fromm leeds, asap to get stuff out of his house if he can, looks like HEDON is about to go submarine style...

Hope its on the news as he has a £5 bet to streak past the TV with 5 number 2's on his back! ..... in joke, if he does it i will tell you what it means lol...

Anyway - looks like HEDON is in trouble.

Yeah, the drain should peak at about 6 apparently, it's a matter of waiting to see what happens, nobody knows how high it's going to go.

Anyone in HEDON got any pics or news of what is going on at the mo?

Hope everyone is safe and only things have been lost and not any more people.

Colin
