No, fortunately 5 minutes in the other direction.

well after nearly 24 hours with no power the electricity has just come back on, and with most of the roads around us being blocked i haven't been able to go to work today.

Having a day of without any power and not being able to go anywhere means i've managed to catch up on my reading :)

I'm writing this from the library right now, my accomadation(unite flats) in sheffield was hit pretty badly, it's next to the river and the car park underneath flooded and the area around. Our water got contaminated so last night we had to move out to the unite property on London Road. Was pretty manic had to wade through about 2 feet of water to get out of the area. No internet and water at my place now and barely electricity but have to pack still. Really feel for the other people affected much worse. :(

Sounds pretty bad. The house I'm renting is up in Crookes so our house should be OK :)

Crookes should be ok.

Wondering how bad Medowhall has been hit. If its flooded as bad as Ive heard then most ground floor shops stock will have been wiped out.

That poor lady Sky news keeps repeatedly showing :(

Only a few people at work missing, most living in flooded zones, I hope they are like Fireman Sam rather than that unfortunate old lady.

Young people can cope and rebuild pretty easy from something like that but I'd be devastated if I were >70 :(

Anybody in hull area no if cineworld will be opening anytime soon, I havnt been up there to see how bad it is? Also is the city centre fucntioning as normal?

Thanks, just want to know to save me a journey

Didn't anyone have a blackout? Our whole area and Rotherham had a 40 hour blackout, it's only just come back on

It was rather scary, I went to Brinsworth to get some bread and it was like people were looting . . . with money! There were no bread to be found anywhere locally! I had to go all the way to Handsworths' Asda to stock up on bread and candles :(

Had one here (Rotherham) which lasted about 22 hours - came back on last night.

How are the West Midlands? I am supposed to be going there tomorrow and i've heard they've had it rough too?
They reckon so but I drove from Yorks to Telford and back yesterday and all I saw outside Yorks were a couple of puddles.

Someone died in Hull today, they got their foot stuck in a drain and rescuers spent 3 hours trying to rescue him before the water got too high and he drowned. :(

Why didn't they give him some sort of breathing apparatus? :(

There may be a reason I'm unaware of as to why this idea wouldn't work, but could they not have moored a small craft nearby to a set-up pole marking his position, and had a tube going over and down to him supplying oxygen?

Regardless of how practical that would have been, they certainly had time to prepare: three hours!

He was - he died of hypothermia.
