Hungary Grand Prix 2011, Hungaroring Circuit - Race 11/19

The driver is allowed to take action to remove himself and car from a dangerous situation. Its one of the main race drivers regulations

Pretty sure that doesn't include doing a 180 from off the racing line, back onto it, in the middle of traffic and forcing other cars off the road in the process.

It's just not defensible, he shouldn't have done it and the penalty was justified, and that's coming from a McLaren fan, i'm no Lewis hater. In fact i've been accused of exactly the opposite on here.

Not sure what he could have done differently to avoid the penalty then?

Should he have sat there idle hoping a gap would appear to spin it round again?

Yes remove himself & car from a dangerous situation. Not almost cause an accident!

car was parked in the middle of the track after a corner, if he left the car there the chance of accident is extremely high. That is what he and his team will claim. Its up to other divers to avoid people on the race track hence the penalties for touching on overtakes.

Yes thats whats dictated for them to do - you cant guess a slowly moving car, you can when its stationary and so can avoid it easier at the speeds/closing distances they are doing...

So you are saying that a stationary car is more dangerous than someone doing a 180 onto the racing line? What planet are you from?
