So due to hit land soon.

Confirmed it'll be cat 3 when it hits and predicting 20+ inches of rain on average, up to 35 in some areas. That's over a years worth of rain for a lot of places.

I've read on twitter lots of local news reporters saying a fair number of people have refused to evacuate.

Given that as soon as people evacuate an area a certain demographic thinks it safe begin looting, I'd prefer to batten down the hatches and try to weather the storm so to speak.

I wonder how the government response will compare to Katrina. Are any of the vacant posts in areas that would be called upon in this sort of event?

Looks like it could be a bad one, storm looks like it will stall for a while

While I feel for these people in the path of the storm, I can only watch in awe of the power of nature, it's incredible. I'm not sure if I would leave or not. Knowing what most american houses are built like, I wouldn't like to be in one I don't think.

Well cousin is fine in katy, says it's hammering down and she's worried yet bosses still got her in working selling clothes........

I was in South Padre Island TX some 8-10 years back when a tropical storm hit, there wasn't a great deal of damage, I think a wall or a balcony of a condo building collapsed, but I don't recall any deaths.
In the street where the house we rented stood, a lot of the garbage cans blew along the street, but that was about it.
