TO put things in perspective, if Irma went up the Channel then the wind would be so strong most buildings in london and Paris would collapse. The office building will most stand, but veyr damaged. Peoples houses wold just be flattened.

People don;t tend to realize but the energy in wind is cubic in the windspeed. Windows of 60MPH will blow roofs off houses. 8-MPH will flatten some exposed buildings.
Irma has had peak sustained winds of 185MPH, gusts over 225MPH. There is no surviving those kinds of conditions.

Republican Rush limbaugh claims Irma is fake news and wont be as powferful as forecast. These iditos need ot be removed form the genepool
 
My Dad lives in Tampa. Half of Florida has headed northwards toward the Carolina's or Alabama.
Locals are saying that this storm is a once in a generation event in terms of its scale.

To back this up, early reprots from Barbuda is that over 90% of all building have been razed to the ground. Reports are patchy because almost all communication channels have been taken out.

Yeah was seeing reports from one place that they weren't able to gauge the full extent yet but some of the buildings most designed for this kind of weather were collapsed in on themselves - never mind anything else.
